64 Bit Reviews on the way

I’ve got plenty of new reviews on the way, however I’m setting up a 64 bit PC for them this weekend.  With this new PC I’ll be able to test 64 bit software like Vista and Windows 7.  I’ll also be keeping the old 32 bit box around as well.

    Awesome Matt. My new Dell laptop is coming with Vista 64 and a free upgrade to Win 7 when it comes out.

  • Cozzettakid1232

    Any idea when the reviews will be uploaded to Youtube?

    Yeah, this is gonna be good. We’ve seen what can happen in a worst-case scenario (XP with IE6) so it’ll be cool seeing how the best case scenario (64 with IE8) looks – ideally with no security.

    @Dieselman – sweet, I love Vista 64 bit! You’re going to love your laptop.

  • malwarekilla

    @rescuenerds – agreed. I’m going to test out Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 without antivirus and see how it does.

    I’m expecting very easy removals since the presence of rootkits are practically non-existent.

    How about testing the new 64-bit Snow Leopard for Malware? Without Intego Virusbarrier X5 which is the “Gold Standard” for Mac anti-malware.

  • Dieselman

    Tom………you need a Mac to test this. Matt is a pc user.

  • Vishal

    Wow matt is that really how you look like? O.o anyway i was just wondering cause i got win XP service pack 3 with 960 mb of ram and mbam pro with avg internet security and sas basic just on it. should i take out on of them cause i am guessing i am kinda low on resources when i tried dling Spyware doctor cause it kept crashing my comp :(

  • Tom

    I know, I just wanted see if he would expand his horizons ;-)

  • Johan

    I am also a PC user, but soon i’ll switch side !-)

  • Dieselman

    I guess buy Matt a Mac and he will test it. Cheers.

    Cool, it would be great to watch windows 7 64x, fully updated with IE 8 against the nasties. I still have some doubts about the 64x anti-root kit capabilities. Hope they are put to rest in your next review. :)

    I have had no experience testing malware on a Vista/7 system. I have never even used a 64 bit system. I am excited to see your tests to see how it works. Even though some find the unsigned driver prevention annoying, it is awesome rootkit prevention.

    It will be a while until I get to test 64 bit and vista/7 on a PC I am building this winter.

    @Johan

    If you are getting a Mac, and want to have some anti-malware protection, PCTools has a very good FREE program called iAntivirus. Runs clean and uses very few resources. The Gold Standard for Macs is Intego VirusBarrier X5. Intego has Unix honey pots and their program catches Adobe vulnerabilities where others don’t. Intego is spend y at $70 to start, but buy the 2 years definition update after the first year anf it is $29 a year. Intego saved me from a Unix Arc Bomb Stealth Trojan download that was injected from bad I-Frame.

    ClamXav is lame, the Clam definition team could careless about OS X malware. Clam has only the oldest and simplest OS X malware definitions. FAIL

    No way! MAC have viruses? Say it isn’t so! But the MAC commercials say otherwise.

    …just a bit of sarcasm.

  • Clinon

    Well, lots of people use 32 bit os, so i dont really think there old. 64 bit os are expensive but have a lot of hard drive space and ram, but i like 32 bit os better.

  • 123zap

    64 bit OS has much better protection and is better when you have a great computer. If you are going to spend a lot of a rig then the extra for 64 isn’t bad.

    You can use what you already have though and just use tweak tools to enable the RAM that can’t be used.

  • Johan

    @Tom

    Yea i allready knew that Intego has the best detection rates. And i’ve tried so hard to find a better product than VirusBarrier but without success.

    So yea I will go with Intego.

    Though i diden’t know that they had
    “Unix Honeypots” thats really nice!

    Thanks for letting me know Tom.

    @everyone – bad news…my 64-bit quadcore is not capable of running 64 bit guests, eventhough I’m running a 64 bit version of Vista…go figure.

    Oh well…time to upload the Norton 2010 review.

  • Tom

    @Benny

    Macs have Malware but have ZERO viruses. So Apple is technically correct as planned.
