Change Your Hotmail Password

Ouch!  Looks like someone hacked and then posted 10,000 hotmail accounts on the internet.  The list was confirmed to be legit and was redistributed all over the internet.  Just think about how many things people save in their email accounts.  What an incredible blunder.

From what i understand, they haven’t somehow magically hacked the accounts but they’ve hacked them through social engineering, fooling users into revealing their passwords to them. And even that were e-mail accounts starting with “a” or “b”. So if you know you haven’t sent your data to anyone and your mail account doesn’t start with those letters, you should be just fine.

However, if Microsoft allowed that email to reach the end user (Gmail would have most probably filtered out the fake email), then MS is partially responsible for this ‘security’ flaw. However, multiple parties are responsible for this. Mostly the people who made the fake emails, but also the uneducated / lazy end-user / perhaps even the government for not giving importance to ‘anti-scam’ education (in most common area’s like computers and finance) at schools.
