Panda Releases Cloud AV Beta 2

by malwarekilla on July 2, 2009

Per Bill over at Panda:

Hi Matt,

I wanted to let you and the remove-malware community know that today Panda Security released a significant update to the Cloud Antivirus beta, which you can learn more about via this blog post written by the company’s Chief Research Advisor, Pedro Bustamante: http://blog.cloudantivirus.com/2009/06/30/cloud-antivirus-beta2-released/.

Highlights include:
• New - “Undo” Option for Recycle Bin
• New - Synchronous Real-Time Cloud-Scan
• New - Latency & Response Control of the Cloud-Scanner
• Fixed - Slow Scans
• Fixed - Recycle Bin Unblock Functionality

In addition, Panda will still release a Beta3 version in September prior to final release of Version 1.0 later this fall. The next beta update will support new platforms (Windows7, 64bits), include improved features, a new website, a Collective Intelligence real-time encyclopedia and some additional goodies – all based on feedback from the beta community.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to catch up with Pedro.

Best,
Bill

Hey Matt,

Hope you don’t waste your time reviewing their garbage. After the last review, I have no hope for them. I still can’t believe they played the ‘beta’ card as an excuse. Look at Microsoft’s latest ‘beta’…sure beats the heck out of Panda.

I just love how you end it with “I gotta go do other stuff”! :)

I think it speaks volumes about Panda.

Matt have already done a review of MSE if that’s what you mean John?

Just watched the review on YouTube and well,
yea i’m not surprised really, and I haven’t got any trust in Panda and it diden’t rise now either.

But yupp it’s still in Beta.
And they are going to launch Beta 3 as well so they might can get it a little better but not much i think, but we can hope that Panda surprises me after all.

Panda Cloud will not be good until it comes out of beta. As you can see since version one the detection rate has improved, but we need to wait ideally until it is offically launched

It should be good IN BETA. Microsoft’s latest offering runs near flawlessly in beta. Simply…there is no excuse for Panda’s failures.

I install it few days ago and I erase it on same day. Reason: It doesn’t have a UPDATE BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, it still needs a lot of work.

Johan July 4, 2009 at 2:55 am

@malwaredestroyer!

NO it doesn’t!!

You wanna know why?

It’s simple, it’s in the CLOUD !-)

The signatures is in the Cloud,
so you don’t have to update at all.

I installed and test myself around 3 days. Panda Cloud Antivirus is not good. Sorry Panda staff. I uninstalled.

I am still on edge about Panda Cloud but keep it on a memory stick. I got called up to my parents house to look at their computer after being told of a facebook app/game having malware in it and I installed MSE to scan it. It didn’t find anything but in a conversation with my dad about security I installed panda to talk about the concept of it and it found a key logger.

I am unsure what to make of this one occurrence but I do support the technology of cloud scanning. I would like to see a review on the final product when its out of beta so it either redeems itself or we can put a final nail in the coffin.
