IE8 still uses the highly targeted trident rendering engine, can you try Opera browser as well?

Just yesterday I had a client that was all kinds of infected. Did a couple scans under ubcd4win and removed everything but, per the usual, there were SO many things left over from the malware (registry settings, active desktop, firefox hijacked, etc etc). I thought, “man, it’d be awesome if there was a tutorial or program that could do a generic cleanup on this stuff instead of doing it all manually”. Is that what you mean by “How To Fix The Windows OS After A Malware Infestation”??? If so, you’re going to be my hero! …and what timing :D

What browser are you using right now? (If it’s IE I’m ashamed of you…)

    Hey Matt,
Interesting review. After I finish downloading something in firefox it says scanning for viruses, what is that if it isn’t an executable scanner?

  • elliotcroft

Opera, But only because FireFox refuses to have it’s process terminated and I can’t open a new window untill it does.

  • John

My Firefox scans too. After every download, it says it’s scanning for viruses as well. Your FF review never gave it the chance because you cancelled every download.

IE8 has nice features but security flaws (exploits) might still be discovered. It is a good thing that Microsoft is finally paying attention to security. All that matters is how fast they fix flaws.

  • ryan

well i think the new ie8 updates like every 1-2 hours so if there is an expoloit it will be fixed very fast

    Attention!:

I have just discovered that the new version of UBCD4win (v 3.50) has MalwareBytes on it! It works from the bootable environment! See here http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4120/ubcd4winmbam.png

Not sure why it’s in german though…
There’s only 2 glitches… it detects (you can’t see this on the pic btw) 2 ‘threats’ on the live environment rather than on the offline pc. Basically it’s one .dll from drive X:\ and a registry key which is something to do with the control panel. Gooodbye malware
