security essentials will replace avira but i hope they fix the update problem when it comes out to genral release…. i think its better than avira it can disinfect items with no problems and thats a good thing

MSE looks nice.At least for now.But if it becomes very popular and be targeted by malware, then perhaps it would be better to use a reliable but ‘under the redar’ program like Antivir.

Yeah, my Vista boxes are now running MSE just so I can used to supporting it.

Matt,

Can you review the removal abilities of the mse beta as well, so that we can see how it compares with avira free

@coratian mse dose not removal as well as avira dose but it prevents better than avira and prevention is all you need so im sure mse will work on its removal but prevention it blocks every thing under the sun.

I don’t get it…Security Essentials updates perfectly for me…every time. It even shows up in my automatic Windows Updates!

When you install MSE does it uninstall windows defender? When it reaches a release candidate or maybe the released version I will install it on my Vista machines.

let’s wait until the real version is out and av-comp have done a real test

avira 9 free is all i need (great detection and low resources!), the only app i would replace it with is avira premium (no server isuess).
