YouTube Question: XP Antispyware 2010 Urgent Need of Help.

Question:

Well my friend’s computer got infected with XP Antispyware 2010, it really messed up his computer. He was able to kill it with SuperAntiSpyware, but i guess his computer still has some effects from the rouge. The computer is really slow, the rouge corrupted Firefox and IE, he can’t even open CCleaner or Defraggler. What can he do to fix it up? Also is there any other way instead of going back to a Restore Point?

Thank you and please respond.

I’ve dealt with this rogue everyday for the past 2 weeks and it sucks!  Anyway, it can mess up your .exe associations in the registry and this sounds like what your friend is dealing with.  To fix this issue download and run the following .reg file:

http://remove-malware.com/ef.reg

After this entry has been merged into his registry he’ll be able to run .exe’s again.

Have you tried the tool that superantispyware has to fix the system at all?

In the past few weeks I’ve seen a pretty large number of these infections. Changes the .exe default from exefile to secfile or something similar.
The .reg file listed will take care of that, as will a Malwarebytes’ quick scan.
Make sure you update java and adobe!

You can fix that with the Kaspersky Vulnerability scanner too.

after all the malware is cleaned out. Try to do a disk cleanup…go to start…(xp).. go to run… (vista/7)…go to search bar.. type: “cmd” and hit enter…(vista/7)…right click and run as administrator… the command prompt will open…type: “chkdsk /r” or “chkdsk /f”
    hit enter

Chkdsk /r will locates has sectors and recovers readable information (implies /f)
chkdsk /f will fixes error on the disk.

you will see the type of the file system is “NTFS or Fat 32″

CHKDSK CANNOT RUN BECAUSE THE VALOUME IS IN USE BY ANOTHER PROCESS.. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SCHEDULE THIS VALUME TO BE CHECKED THE NEXT TIME THE SYSTEM RESTARTS? (Y/N)

chkdsk /r can takes upto 3 hours
chkdsk /f can take upto 10 min

Matt might be able to add more information about that.

    hope thats helps.

Matt. nice vids keep up the good work.

With a Virus/Trojan Fake Antivirus, seems now to affect the Registry, in away, if you stop the process, after you open any program, the Fake Security program open up again.

This can be very frustrating if you do not how to remove. But When you know how to fix, System can be up and running in 10 mins.

Boot to a Windows PE Enviroment (Mini PE, etc)

    Go to / Explore to “C:\Documnets and Settings\%User Profile%\Local Settings\ApplicationData\”

The file is usually a hidden file. Should be same as the process running that comes back every time.

    The one was “ave.exe”

    create the following in notpad

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
    @=”\”%1\” %*”

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
    @=”exefile”
    “Content Type”=”application/x-msdownload”

This is Similar to MAtts one provided, will work too.

Once run / merged. Reboot PC. The Antivirus software that was installed should now run on start up.

Run Ccleaner , temp files and reg clean. Run and Update Malwarebytes and run a quick scan. System now clean
