If you thought this was impressive, the avira website says the free version (which is the one you used) apparently doesn’t detect spyware and adware (http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html)
Imagine how good the pro version is…

sched.exe is actually part of Avira ;)

It’s the scheduler that takes care of automatic updates etc.

For a computer repair man, you sure don’t know much.

smss.exe is a vital part of Windows

sched.exe is the updater for Avira.

Once again, Antivir and most antiviruses are NOT MEANT to remove adware

Forgive him for not knowing about a few processes. Clearly, you probably googled those processes yourself to find out their function. Oh and also, Avira does advertise that their product removes spyware and adware. They don’t advertise this for the free product, but they do advertise it for their paid version.

Yes, those are legitimate processes but, if you haven’t looked at what Avira is composed of, how would you know that, that was legitimate file. I have been using Avira Free along with SUPERAntiSpyware Pro. and PCTools Free Firewall Plus on Vista
for quite some time. I have been malware free ever since I installed this config. NO conflicts whatsoever. To enhance my
protection I also use Sandboxie to sandbox my browser(Firefox)
when I roam for new programs. I can also install those new programs in Sandboxie to make sure that no adware are packaged with it. All in all, if you take certain precautions, you should remain malware free.

From time to time I scan my system with top rated AS like Super Antispyware, ST etc. I run Avira Premium as my basic protection, never have any of the AS ever found a spyware so I guess Avira is doing its job well.
