Matt, you’re funny! Nice vid, but poor bluepoint, LOL. I am in total agreement, bluepoint should have just blocked everything.

Bo August 21, 2009 at 2:08 am

I agree Matt…this product is useless. How is it any different from IE’s box that comes up when you try to download a file? IE’s box gives you the option to ‘Open’, ‘Save’, or ‘Cancel’. It’s basically the exact same thing…no more secure. It gives the user no protection.

I totally agree with Matt and with Bo, too. I think the IE’s box is sometimes safer than Bluepoint because it gives you a security warning before you run the file. Blupoint just say it is unknown. I think this program is an ‘unknown warning maker’ not a security product.

Honestly, a company that puts themselves up by trashing other AV companies does not deserve any customers. There are way better ‘deny the unknown’ applications out there from honest companies, why would one go for bluepoint? What’s the point?
(And the interface looks like it was made in MS Paint.)

Victor August 21, 2009 at 9:27 am

Matt,

Do you have any plans to undertake a sandbox prevention shootout between Sandboxie, GeSWall, SafeSpace, and BufferZone?

@Matt: What about testing this new cloud antivirus?

maybe bluepoint is crap, but I think comodo, drivesentry or any other hips is pretty similar to this. they wont tell either if an unknown file is infected or not, so an unexperienced user might allow everything whit these products also.

Dario August 21, 2009 at 7:38 pm

@rolf:

As Matt was saying, with Comodo you can set it up to block everything unknown without displaying the option to allow it. That is something this product does not offer. If you install Comodo on an inexperienced user’s computer and have it block all unknown files without asking, it will be safer than installing a product that does ask if you wish to execute it.

rolf August 22, 2009 at 7:20 am

Can you set up drivesentry the same way?

Dario August 22, 2009 at 8:56 am

@rolf

I was a DriveSentry user a while ago and moved on to Comodo. As far as I know you cannot setup Drivesentry to block everything without asking. Perhaps the latest version can, I did not check.

rolf August 22, 2009 at 9:54 am

What I mean is that Matt realy liked Drivesentry, but didnt like Bluepoint at all. In what way would Drivesentry be easier for an unexperienced user?

Ian August 23, 2009 at 7:38 am

I think it had more to do with the fact that Drivesentry didn’t post videos on youtube on how bad other avs are.

You could also use faronics anti executable to block all non-white listed programs or so it claims unless you turn off the protection anyway (was written in a testimonal).

anony August 30, 2009 at 8:17 pm

…i think this review had more to do with he was angry if you listen to his tone and how the review begins (he’s offended lmao). av products suck at detecting new threats meanwhile his other reviews show how great they work (some of the time) etc. The review is also riddled with misinformation such as things weren’t blocked etc. if you don’t run some sort of white listing security solution your a sitting duck. period.

BluePoint Security posted messages over at Wilders. He talks about your review.
