The latest version of combofix flat out tells you that 1/100 computers can be corrupted as a result of combofix cleaning infections. This is true…I know. ComboFix will delete any infected files…that means system files. So, on your next reboot you may not be booting at all :P Make sure you perform a virus scan with the quarantine option turned on before you run combofix

    I heard there was a late version of ComboFix that didn’t harm anyones computer, that it was safe for public use. There was a rootkit hidden in ComboFix, is there a new/updated ComboFix?

    I’ve used ComboFix many times & NEVER experienced ANY of the
    stated issue’s. This goes for old versions till now.

    Scanning your system directory with an AV app is a no brainer.
    It should be step 1 anyways. Thats why Combofix exists! To
    rid you of all the items AV software cannot get at.

    note: Combofix now saves all removed files in a directory so
    if you want something back, it’s there…

    Combofix is verry well tool. It has deinfected and cleaned my system in 10min when I could not do that Whith Kaspersky antivirus in averag 8hours.

    I thought ComboFix is a great tool and does a great job on my 32 bits systems. I just wish there was a version that ran on 64 Bit Vista.

    Combofix is a godsend. The Microsoft IE vulnerability that was highlighted this week had infected so many PCs I supported but along with Malwarebytes and CCleaner, Combofix saved the day even though neither Norton nor Microsoft issued any updates to help the general public.

    this is just like a-squared, doesn’t clean files only deletes.

    I think about half of the people who commented don’t know what they are talking about.

    I wouldn’t recommend this program to the average user. I have experienced the 1/100 problem a few times. But if you are a Administrator this program is definitely worth the risk.

    Computer badly infected. No matter what i used, couldn’t get rid of 2 lonely trojans. About to do a clean install and decided to give this a try. Ran all my scans, they were gone!!! Computer is running geat. Super job Combo Fix.

    ALL im sayin is COMBOFIX is the BOMB….literally, only piece of software out there that got rid of the virus that was messing up my hard drive access.

    sooo much R111SPECT to the person/persons who created that software, i can’t believe it was free aswell.

    is there any real type of combofix that really works even after the computer is infected ? i don’t think so.
    combofix won’t even run after the virus attacks the DOS.

    Combofix is EXCELLENT, but use not just at your own risk, but as a last resort. It should not be the go to app. Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware ran together first if they can run on the infected PC should be number 1. If they don’t, combofix is a great tool to try. Truth is if the other two can’t do it, you may have to reformat anyway, so combofix can save you from that at times.

    I was fighting viruses on a couple of older Dell’s. After I ran ComboFix and the system rebooted, the user32.dll file was “missing or corrupted.” Not really a big problem, just took a while to boot from CD and extract replacement file to system32 folder.

    Combofix is awesome but it is made for a last resort. users with little experience should not use it just in case it does more damage than the virus. always have your windows boot cd ready to repair your system just in case.!.

    I use Panda for my Anti Virus program. Panda sees ComboFix as a virus and disinfects it, which makes it useless. So I download ComboFix and save it as ComboFix.ex_. When I need it i change the extension back to .exe and away we go…

    Combofix had a rootkit signature. It was not actually a rootkit. This is an excellent program that CAN crash your computer. It happens 1 in about every 120 computers. I use this at work all the time.

    i tried ComboFix… it deleted few files. i thought that it worked but i was still geting the anoying pop-ups. it never worked for me. :(

    Abhishek, do this ok, boot into safe mode and run combofix, if it restarts your computer get back into safe mode. Next, get smitfraudfix, run this also with option number 2. Then after that has finished run autoruns. Delete all entries out of the Internet Explorer tab, click options at the top of autoruns and click “hide all microsoft entries” then hit the refresh button. Now go to the logon tab and remove weird looking items that have no company name.

    NOTE: Do not remove userinit.exe.

    Now close that out and run WinsockXpFix. Run that and let it restart the machine. You should be good to go.

    combofix is gods gift to computers, one amazing program, no drawbacks at all, if you read its readme file, it tells you exactly what it did, plus you can also manually control what it looks up, deletes, etc while it is running if you use Kerio or any decent firewall which allows you to block or allow registry changes, and file executions that combofix might do.
    Overall: Jesus died on the cross so that we may have combofix.

    I swithced from smitfraudfix to combofix, i dont know hpw to describe it, but lets just say, its more “powerful”,
    as stated above, it can screw ur computer too, therefore is not recommended for users with litte experience..

    There is good reason for only using this if you are “experienced”. The program itself can not really mess things up unless its screwed with, the big problem is, can you fix it if it does delete an infected major system file?

    If you know how, then everything is good.

    I do have little knowledge in virus removal and even i tried adding some of the virus names starting with gaopdx, uac, tdssserv, gxfxc, msqpdx and gaop under HLKM\system\currentcontrolset\services to find out whether any of these files are running in the process. But i dont find any. It is sufficient to know whether are there any other rootkit virus which has came new apart from the above which i mentioned….

    So my computer was so messed up, and I tried everything. I downloaded every anti malware/spyware program there was and some of it couldn’t even run. I found combofix, ran it, and now my computer is clean as ever. Thanks!!!

    I had a computer that had a virus. It gave errors about Profile cannot be loaded, then Profiles cannot be created, Then Windows needs to Activated in order to run. It kept kicking me back to the login page. The Safe Mode was disabled.

    Does Comboix run from a flash drive after booting from the XP install disk? How do I go about it?…if it does run from flash drive.

    I ve downloaded something which I believed is a song, and sure it s not. the problem is that i cannot delete it, rename, change anything. keeps staying on my desktop saying that it is no longer located there. i am on vista and i don t know should i install combofix or would it help, here they say it won’t work properly! :S

    Combo Fix is an awesome program. It was the only program that could detect and fix my root kit (windows/system32/SKYNET). Whoever created this program is a GOD.

    Listen punk, I have been fixing computers probably before you were able to type. I use combofix on a daily basis and anyone doubting me I would be happy to post my cert numbers. Because unlike you, you little shit, I took the time to actually do something with my life instead of trolling and flaming threads. Since you are probably getting off from what I am saying at this moment, I am done talking to you. You are screwed up like that. I am going to stop.

    Actually yeah, that is about the results I have here. The crash in question 90% is it deleting uerinit.exe, I have to use something like miniPE to replace the userinit.exe in system32 and replace the registry entry. But there is always those 10% of crashes that end up being a reload. I found with those it was a lose lose situation anyhow.

    All in all combofix is god for computers.

    I had a nasty rootkit that could be identified by Spybot, but not removed. I ran Combo Fix and it solved the problem. I suggest you try it.

    I want to say thank you to the creators of Combo Fix. Using Combo-Fix is simple and effective. Here are some basics that I discovered:

    1. You have to be clever and rename the program when you download it. Some rootkits will reject the software and mess with you.

    2. I did it in Windows Safe Mode.

    3. You have to shut down all of your other Spyware removal programs.

    ComboFix is a work in progress. That means there are always new bugs in the tool. As the disclaimer in ComboFix warns, it is not for private use and it needs to be run under supervision of an expert trained in its use. Unless you have direct contact daily with the developer, running CF on your own is risky.

    I just infected my entire laptop by downloading and running the latest combofix.I am trying to find a cure before I restart. Presently ComboFix is not entirely reliable.
