Eset’s Nod32 4.0 Beta 1 – Detection and Removal Tests

Over the weekend I decided to pit NOD32 4.0 against my highly infected PC. The previous version of Nod32 (version 3.0) left behind quite a bit of adware (vundo) running. I was railed by the Nod32 groupies for putting Nod32 in a “negative light” for exposing it’s anti-adware “deficiencies” .

Anyway…Version 4.0 of Nod32 is a lot better at dealing with unknown threats and adware (and this is only beta 1). I was going to use Nod32 4.0 for my ad-aware 2008 tests, however NOD32 4.0 remove too much of the adware :) !

NOD32 4.0 looks like a great choice if you’re looking for a traditional antivirus application. Version 4.0 blocked all 5 malicious URL downloads in my prevention tests and provided excellent detection / removal abilities against some of the worst threats out there.

Congratulations to the Nod32 development team for this much improved release

How did you get rid of the ‘wowfx.dll’ real time scanner problem. Did you do a safe mod scan?

  • malwarekilla

@Jimmy James – no, NOD32 took care of it upon reboot (i think).

and the add-ons matt disabled (malware nod32 missed) before testing IE was at lest one vundo file and that one could have blocked sites or created popups
