I am an experienced Internet surfer and I studiously unticked the Yahoo! Toolbar option but AVG disregarded my wish and installed the bar anyway.

This has never happened to me before (ever) and I am giving serious consideration to removing AVG altogether. How can I place my trust in a company (AVG) that that so flagrantly disrespects my choice in the name of profit seeking.

Hey guys,
i need to get rid of the Yahoo Search option, as i did the same and didnt see the arrow on an AVG 9.0 installation.
i followed all your instructions above, but nothing removes the yahoo search option.
im using firefox 3.5.
you know when you double click some text to select in firefox, any text on the a webpage, then right click for the small drop down menu to appear, and i use to be able to then just go down the menu and "select search google" for that word i highlighted: but now it says yahoo instead of google search.
thats what i want to get rid of, the yahoo option
any help would much appreciated
cheers and thanks kevin

Malwarekilla or someone else...I have the same issue. By doing what you suggested (going to Int. Options, Advanced, and clicking Reset) completely disable my IE browser? Will I have to reinstall that? I just want to get rid of the stupid AVG/Yahoo toolbar, but I don't want "Resetting" things to mess with the actual browser or my Google toolbar (that toolbar doesn't slow me down). Please advise - I'm not at all technical. Thank you.

Thanks Dave

I find it absolutely maddening to have all these toolbars loading themselves and filling up my screen- and Yahoo has removed the "uninstall " option in the pencil menu in their latest toolbar. The last lot installed themselves - 2 of them - when AVG updated - I didn't see any -do not install- option when they did.

Have successfully got rid of them thanks to your advice!

For Mozilla Firefox 3.0 try...

1. Tools
2. Options
3. Main
5. Manage Add-ons (button at the bottom)

...and there should be an entry for "AVG Security Toolbar" with an option to disable.

Not sure I've noticed any performance gain but it gives me back a bit of screen.

You can use toolbar cop to get rid of it (do a search for toolbar cop). Also, if you're using IE you can reset IE and it will remove the toolbar for ya.

1. Open IE
2. Click tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click Advanced
5. Click Reset
6. Follow the prompts

I did not tick the yahoo toolbar add option but I have a whole lot of AVG protection on my toolbar now and man is it slowing things down- any painless way to get rid of it?

I mean besides uninstall, etc...
