My Favorite Online Virus Scanners

by malwarekilla on September 17, 2008

Here are a list virus scanners that actually scan and clean malware.  These scanners require Internet Explorer.  If you have an online malware scanner that you like please leave a comment with the URL:

Now that’s surprising !!
Panda will remove only trojans and worms on registration.
Personally, I like online scanners which can disinfect too. Like,

F-Secure (Uses Kaspersky and in-house-engine. Detects even Rootkits. But download is larger and scanning is slow)
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

Eset (Uses same engine as NOD32. High speed of scanning , but is not good at detecting spyware)

A-Squared (Good Spyware & Trojan Scanner, at par with MBAM or SAS, IMO)
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/

Microsoft Windows Live OneCare Scanner (Uses MS OneCare engine. Pretty decent, also throws in freebies like PC cleanup and tune-up)

@VJ – Wow! Awesome list, thanks for adding those!
@Josh – Thanks so much the complements! I’m always striving to improve the quality of the reviews. The next review will list items missed by the particular anti-malware in question.

I like the F-Secure online scanner. It’s not the fastest, but it uses the Kaspersky engine aswell as its own, so it’s great. Plus the kaspersky online scanner doesn’t remove viruses – it just detects them… Anyway, heres the link:

Also, for spyware removal you can get an a-squared scan here:

Hi Matt.

No worries – You’re a very considerable individual!

One suggest, To improve reviews it look at the PERFORMANCE of each product (Memory Usage, CPU, etc).

This way, We are not only looking at detections & removal we are also looking at the SPEED of a product.

Keep it up! :-)

Cheers,
Josh
