LOL…Fake DOS AntiVirus

While testing the latest build of Avast Antivirus I came across something that made me laugh! Yes…fake DOS pages are sure to scare the cr*p out of noobs.

LOL – We saw something like this last year. If you let it play, it runs through a “reboot” where it shows an animation that simulates the computer rebooting, complete with Windows XP startup logo, welcome screen, etc. It’ll keep doing this every 3-5 minutes. The only way to stop the animation from running once it starts is through task manager and killing the process FBOSD.exe (yes – short for “fake blue screen of death”). The funniest part was that this malware was installed on a Vista machine, but it still showed an animation for XP boot up.

The amazing thing is that noobs actually think it’s real even though the English is very bad. I’m not sure what’s worst, the people who make these fake things or the people who think it’s real…

I guess nobody in Russia knows how to speak English

I suppose so. With all the money these guys are making you’d think they could hire a decent copywriter.

Why does it still show the windows taskbar? Was the test of avast a prevention test? What antivirus are you using now, still on avira?
