AntiVirus 2008 XP - Path To Infection
First, don’t click on any emails claiming to be an update from MSN or Microsoft. MSN/Microsoft never sends emails about a “Free Update”. If you want to update your PC *always* go to Microsoft.com (NEVER click on any links in an email offering windows updates).
Next, I did click on this link through one of my [...]
More Greeting Card Malware
I was just checking my mail at remove-malware.com and someone was nice enough to send me e-card malware! I think I’m going to see what the .exe does in one of my clean virtual machines. I had 3 clients this week that opened this e-card.exe file. They didn’t get a cute card, [...]
The People Have Spoken! Bit Defender Review Next
Many thanks to all who voted! I’ll be posting this Bit Defender Review by this Sunday August 31st (keep in mind it may be sooner, it just depends on my client load this week). Due to popular demand Firefox will be demo’d in the reviews going forward (as well as IE).
Rogue Antivirus: How They Work and How to Remove Them
Rogue Anti-virus applications are being produced in ever increasing numbers each week now. Why? This is a scam that works big time! Rogue Anti-Virus scams are able to steal money, credit card numbers and sometimes entire identities. Below you can see the life cycle of a Rogue Anti-Virus scam.

SpyGuarder Rogue Anti-Virus Removal

C:\Documents and Settings\user\ctfmon.exe
Once these [...]
Be careful when visiting these TLD’s (top level domains)
Mcafee has released a report this week that you should use caution when visiting domains that end with .cn .hk and .info. I’m going to agree with them. While doing my anti-malware reviews I noticed a lot of the popups and redirections usually lead me to a .cn which injected more malware into my virtual [...]
AVG Security Toolbar…No Thanks…
FYI - AVG is OK is you’re a casual internet user. If you use the internet a lot or have kids that do then you NEED Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.
I recently installed the free version AVG 8.0 and its security toolbar. While I like the protection AVG 8 offers (it’s malware detection and [...]
Stop Using Registry Cleaners
I meet soooo many people online and in my consulting business each week that swear by their registry cleaner. Registry Cleaners are the snake oil of pc repair. Cleaning your registry will often do more harm than good and is totally unnecessary even after getting a malware infection.
If you get infected with malware [...]

Grisoft ( makers of AVG Antivirus and Antispyware ) have announced that they will be bundling the yahoo search toolbar with the new AVG Free version 8.0. This seems to be pretty common these [...]
