    Hi Matt,
Came across your great video. Had Stopzilla and cancelled.
( It started redirects on all google searches). Went to purchase Spyware Doc w/ Antivirus while in safe mode as recommended and got: card declined notice via element5.
Googled review for PCTools credit collector which is element5 and freaked with all the comments saying they scammed their card of charges. Any experience with this issue? Was my debit card declined ’cause I was in safe mode?? I have the funds in my account so that is not a problem.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    • malwarekilla

@Ron – I purchased dozens of items via Element and I’ve never had a problem. Try buying it from another PC if you can.

  • Martino

    HI Matt,
first of all thank you for all the videos. Recently i’ve heard some people saying that if you are running a 64BIT OS you are bullet proof against malwares and other types of threats because the so called “viruses” aren’t made for 64BIT OS. Is that true?

    Thanks.

Hey Matt, Just wondering if you heard of this problem with IE8? It removed all my restore points. It caused other problems to, but that’s the main question. I ws told by someone at hp that IE8 is not compatable with vista. That doesn’t help me now.

    • malwarekilla

@Joe – nope, never heard of such a thing. IE8 works fine with Vista. If anything removed a restore point then it’s probably malware related.

  • Jason

Hey Matt, love your Videos…what do you think is the best security programs (anti-Virus+Spy ware and Optimizers)

After cleaning a Pc that has never had any protection or maintenance, i always running a disk defragmanter and registry cleaner after. I usually find 1000+ fragmented files and 500+ registry errors after scanning.

I highly recommand Smart Defrag is free and it is one of the highest rated disk defragmanter recommaned by professionals and most downloaded on Cnet. It has live defrag and a very simply interface so its perfect for people thats not experienced with computers.

The other disk defragmanter i recommend is diskeeper lite. Its very good + simple, i don’t recommand diskeeper pro or any other verison as it can be very overwhelming.

As for registry cleaner, its very importent to find a decent one, not one thats build into an anti virus program or cleaning program because they suck.

I would recommand Regdefence. It is highly rated by professionals on Cnet and it really works unlike most other registry cleans. I was sceptic too until i compared it to Regcure and it found alot more + it actually fixed it unlike Regcure which finds the same things over and over again.

I find these that dose a specific task better and alot more powerful compared to ‘all in one’ cleaning programs such as iolo system mechanic.

This is from all my years of computer experience.

  • Jason

    Hey thanks for the help!!!
do you think Advanced System Optimizer is a good tool??
    should I be using it???

    thanks.

  • Qian

Yes using it is better then nothing. Although i don’t prefer ‘all in 1′ tools. The 2 main features in ‘all in 1′ tools is the disk defragmenter and registry cleaner. But those in ‘all in 1′ tools aren’t very powerful.

I find these that dose a specific task better and alot more powerful compared to ‘all in one’ cleaning programs such as the ones i mentioned.

Try running the ones i recommended, it would find alot more problems and errors then the ones in the ‘all in one’ tool.

  • Jason

thanks for the help Matt, can I ask you what the best free tools for Windows 7 64bit would be.

    Tanks for the advice!

  • Paul Rogers

Quick question if that is ok- which set up would you prefer- Malware Bytes, Avira 10 Anti Vir Free, Geswall or Sandboxie or pay for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 to cover everything??? Which should be the most 1. effective at blocking/preventing etc and 2. most reliable and stable??? Thanks in advance

  • Larry Mollner

Hi Matt, been watching your video’s on testing different security software and your approach is unrealistic. Most people do not run a virtual machine on their computer. I realize your doing this for testing purposes, but malware may react differently in a virtual machine environment. To truly test a anti-virus software or security suite, you need to set up a computer like an average user would do (no VM) and test your 10 (more than 10 would be better and of different variety instead of for example mostly trojans) malicious downloads this way. Of course there is always the risk of getting infected, but that’s the real world environment. This will show how effective the software truly is. Thanks for great video reviews.

  • Sn1per_19

  • John

    Hi,

  • LR

Hey Matt, will you be reviewing Immunet Cloud AV now that? it is out of beta? It can be used as a back up AV that runs inconjunction with your main AV.

  • Wadabing

Matt, can you do a review on “Stopzilla”? There ads are everywhere, and they speak highly of themselves. They claim to be able to take down the Google redirect virus, I highly doubt this, but could you test it out?

  • al

boy this faq needs to be updated avira 9? thats last year

  • keith smith

Matt – did you change your mind & decide not to do a review of Defensewall 3.0?

  • erik

    Matt,
Thank you for your YouTube step by step malware removal vid, extremely helpful. I need further assistance in post-removal; a.) I cannot find the repair codes discussed in your vid, that you say are on your blog. b.) My IE browser still re-directs, and c.) my computer is very slow, as compared to prior infection. Please help. Thanks.

    • malwarekilla

@erik – if your browser is still redirecting then you probably still have a rootkit. Try scanning C:\Windows via a Dr. Web Live CD.

  • James Yu

It seems that my desktop is booting up kinda slower than normal. I was just wondering if a desktop with windows xp sp3 take about 3 mins and 20 seconds to boot is normal? Should i do a reformat or Clean for viruses and malware first?

  • http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24816361-Challenge-to-Symantec-from-Comodo-Super-Hero-Melih Comodo VS. Symantec

Hey Matt, was wondering what your thoughts on this was? perhaps you could take on this task?

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24816361-Challenge-to-Symantec-from-Comodo-Super-Hero-Melih

Thesis David Hall, a product manager at Symantec: “If you are only relying on free anti-virus in this modern age, you are not getting the protection you need to be able to stay clean and have a reasonable chance of avoiding identity theft … free anti-virus is not enough: you need in-depth layered technologies, which only come from the more mature paid suites.”

Reaction Melih, Comodo’s invincible ultra super hero:

“I read what Symantec have said about Free Anti Virus products. This kind of misinformation is just unacceptable from companies like Symantec! Enough is Enough..You can’t mislead end users with blatant lies like this!

If Symantec truly believes what they preach to the media then they will have no problem taking this challenge:

To Symantec: Comodo openly challenges you to an independent test to see which product can protect users better. A $$$ Norton product or totally Free Comodo!

Just let us know. Our respective companies will choose a mutually agreeable independent testing organisation to test which product can “Protect” the end user better.

    Eagerly awaiting your answer.

    Melih

    CEO

    COMODO”

Sorry I may not have made myself clear (no I am not trying to spam your site) By ‘working together’ I mean, will they work with no problems– will they still function properly without interference from one another? My apologies again

  • malwarekilla

    @WHASSUP – no, you should only run 1 anti-virus at a time.
