It's been on the "Attemtping to create system restore point..." for like an hour. Is that to be expected?

Make sure that system restore is turned on and try again. That might help--Control Panel/System Properties/System Restore; make sure the box does not have a check in it.

Yes. If the box is checked it means that system restore is turned off.

Ok, So I've read through all 14 pages of this topic so I think it's safe to say I'm familiar with it.I've never had combofix crash on me ever either. Honestly to me, this sounds like the processor may be overheating with the frequent freezes. This is normally an indicator of the processor fan is dying or not running at all and more often than that is that the thermal paste has worn down. It's normal and it happens with age. Just need to reapply some. I would gladly lend a hand with the discussion at ZOU's discretion. Maybe it may be better If i Just PM him so as to not add more confusion to the thread with several different suggestions. What do you think ZOU?

Go ahead, redman. At least there is plenty here for deductive reasoning. I am all out of ideas except that he either needs to re-install Windows, or it is a hardware issue that does not include RAM or the Hard Drive.

K i ran combofix and it seems to be stuck at the end. It says:
"creating log file.
Do not run any programs until combofix has finished."
It's been on that screen for around 30 minutes. Suggestions?
Also, i saw it deleted several files after the scan including some oddly named ones like "UNWISE.exe"
Glad to have extra help redman :)

well with that said in mind. The reason I think it maybe out of thermal paste is because, I once had a client come to me with a freezing problem. It was an HP Laptop =( lol. It would freeze by doing the simplest things. I was able to reproduce it by playing a couple songs on iTunes. So if a mundane task like sound playback will freeze, I guarantee running scans will as well. Here's the twist though. From what I could read, it doesn't freeze when running bootable discs right? Have we tried a repair install? or sfc /scannow? it could be some important drivers were replaced and the scans were doing arent picking them up

Whats a repair install? or sfc /scannow?

Also the computer is fairly new. I've only had it for around a year...not even that i don't think.
