Malwarebytes found two entries of Broken.OpenCommand

Postby ja9219 » Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:25 am

I have been wanting to post this for a while, but when I first installed Malwarebytes it found those Broken.OpenCommand, it found them in my registry any one know what these are for, also I restored my computer to factory settings a while ago when I was having problems, with it and Malwarebytes detected these same things. They are in my quarantine so I'm not too worried.
Thanks in advance for the help

It's a default registry setting. Probably has something to do with security center's default settings is my guess. It's not much to worry about, the registry is a value storage for the most part. Programs will ask the registry for permission before they run, if they run at start up, or...well a lot of things. But you should be fine.

Chris didn't say tadaa, that was a link. You should google these things before asking.

It is a potential false positive with MBAM, it is nothing to worry about because it is a little in consequential thing. We can take a look at the registry key if you want, but it is nothing to be worried about.

I'd like to see the key. My MBAM did the same thing for my laptop but it was just some default setting it didn't like. Let's see it if you don't mind.

My bad Chris didn't know it was a link, also 123zap i did google these things but I didn't totally understand what it meant

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\scrfile\shell\open\command\(default) (Broken.OpenCommand) -> Bad: (NOTEPAD.EXE %1) Good: ("%1" /S) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command\(default) (Broken.OpenCommand) -> Bad: (NOTEPAD.EXE %1) Good: (regedit.exe "%1") -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
