Could this be dangerous to my computer?

Postby JTHA80 » Tue Mar 06, 2012 5:37 am

I've got a Toshiba laptop that I use for university, so basically it's stationary 95% of the time - yesterday I first noticed that my laptop battery seems to be dying (despite my computer not being so old) and if I recall correctly my warranty is up.

Basically, what I'm trying to ask is: is it ok to have the laptop always plugged into a power source? Will it do harm to my computer? Do I even need to replace my battery?

You might have to buy a new battery if you keep having these problems. But always keeping a battery plugged in might not be healthy for it. When its fully charged try to unplug it.

Thanks for the replies.

Buying a new battery isn't on the budget :) So I guess it's ok to just keep using it as normal? Charging it to the max (100%) and then charging it again when it's low (around 5-10% ?)

...sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a complete non-technical person

Yeah should be fine, it is just telling you that due to the state of your battery that it might turn off all of a sudden. When connected to the power however you will be fine.

Aaahh, good to know :) Thank you :)

Glad to know that I don't have to buy another battery (especially since I'm always near electricity)

So my computer could shut off permanently? If I were then to buy a new battery, could I start the computer up again then?

Yes if you bought a new battery every thing would work again the battery has nothing to do with you loseing any programs or files.
