Yes.

Though usually you don't want to isolate trusted installers.

Yes just as normal.

EDIT:: Again I stress... Don't run known trusted installers in GesWall.. ( It will usually give you a pop-up when you run an installer)

it'll be kept in a virtual space and not included within your program files directory.

No it's not like sandboxie. Same goal though, to isolate.

It's a program that enforces a software restriction policy. It does have some sort of virtulization (Referred to GeSwall as redirection)
http://gentlesecurity.com/docs/geswallfaq00.html

By default GeSwall virtualizes the registry and a few other places. C:/Program Files/ is not virtualized unless you specify.

Security sides of things it's rock solid.. I've litterally tested it against hundreds of malware over time and It has not failed once. With the exception of rogues, reboot fixes that though.

Usability will be the only hurdle :)
Have fun.

When you run an isolated installer, it will be installed in the default location (ie. C:\Program Files\...) - unless changed.

There is a scanner to find/list all isolated programs/files/folders running under Geswall - if that is cleared everything will be deleted. For example; the isolated installation in the Programs Files, also shortcuts created on the desktop.

Slightly Off-Topic
Not sure if was here or another forum, but any personal files not in the Confidential Folder that Geswall creates in My Docs, are not automatically protected.

If you plan to use Geswall, take a look at other issues users have experienced.

Hope this helps.
