Geswall & Rogue AV

Postby smallpebble » Thu Apr 08, 2010 8:58 am

Hi All,

I installed Geswall free on a friends PC about 6 months ago and added Windows Media Player to the applications list via the Application Wizard. Now this friend goes on Facebook all the time and plays music via WMP occasionally.

Whilst she was on the internet yesterday a Rogue AV popped up and she lost her internet connection as well. She says she was on Facebook when it happened, but because the browser IE8 was isolated anyway I thought it wouldn't make any difference what website she was on. Because she isn't computer literate I just told her to reboot her PC and all should be fine.

When she booted back up the rogue AV wasn't active, as expected, but she still couldn't get on the internet. All she gets is limited or no connectivity.

Anybody have any ideas as to whether something has got past Geswall and done something to her LAN or any ideas really as I'm baffled.

Thanks In Advance

Gary.

Did you terminate the programs in "Isolated Applications"?

No, because she has no idea about computers I thought it would be easier to tell her to just reboot so that's what she did.

Well you must tell her to terminate the rogue on isolation to make it safe. ;)

Just explain to her what she need to do:
1.Click GesWall try icon.
2.The main interface will open.
3.On the main interface ask her to search for "Isolated Applications" ,tell her to click that .
4. Then she will notice some Application whit s big green button on each one side.. called "Terminate"....
5.Tell her to terminte all the programs.

This is not a very hard thing to do.....i think it;s the most easy task that you can give to someone...:P

We need her to do this to see if this will fix the problem.

Sorry for the long delay, I've been round her house today and when the PC boots up and I open Geswall there are no isolated applications. When I run IE8 it opens but it cannot display the web page. With IE8 open if I look in isolated applications there is only iexplore.exe there, nothing else.

I think a format and start again is the only option.

Thanks for your help.
