AVG, CA, and ClamAV.

The older Norton's and Mcafee's were terrible, but they seem to have got better lately.

I am serious about Avast and Avira. I only "think" I would purchase Kaspersky or maybe Sunbelt Viper.

I like Avast because it is hassle free and has a boot time scanner. As far as Avira goes, it has a lot to do with how you set it up and manage it. I like Avira because it is hands on, very effective, and informative if you set it right.

I am using Avast 5 right now. How about you, Ross?

I have a bad habit of reading the titles to fast sometimes and then I feed to much off of individual posts.

The worst is definitely the older Norton av's. I am not sold on AVG either.

I definitely don't put avg in the top 4, but with the exception of no rootkit protection on the free version, is there really any huge issues pertinent to the antivirus engine? Also, are any AV's really that effective at stopping rootkits. I thought that was why they are marketed as AV programs.
