Best defragmenter?

My Defrag is a powerful program. It has a scripting language that allows you to position data on disk the way you want. If for example you have a bunch of audio files that you want to access fast you can position those at the beginning of your drive (faster) and order them by name (better for indexing). Unfortunately the current version is slow and sometimes resource intensive (if defrag speed is left at 100%)...and, yes, it doesn't have a beautiful interface. Auslogics gets my vote because is free, fast, can defrag multiple drives at once and it has a portable version.

I'm going to throw in Vopt it's very small and does a good job without all the crazy features you don't need.

The install is just over 3MB, running vopt takes 15MB of ram at idle. For me, it's the fact that it doesn't have a bunch of useless features. Yet it still has a batch defrag feature which let's you defrag whichever drives you want and even have it shut down when done.

moved from Ultimate Defrag to Auslogics Defrag, and loving it. Auslogics Defrag is fast, clean and best of all, i noticed a significant speedup to accessing my files and folders, after a single Defrag & Optimise.

Perfectdisk owns, it does good in defraging and at the same time defrag your page file, registry, and so fourth. I see a lot of improvement from switching from disk keeper to perfect disk a couple of years ago.

Why pay for PD. PD does not defrag your registry and why pay for a program to do what Windows does itself like defragging your page file and layout.ini files. You need a separate program to defrag your registry and Auslogics also makes a free program to do this.

I agree with Dieselman 100%.
Why do you pay for a soft if you have great free programs? It's worth to buy a program only if it's really several levels above its free counterparts. or you love this very soft and ready to pay money to get it. many guys here recommend Auclogics defragg and I really want to try it. But I can recommend Iobit's Smart defrag. I used Perfect Disc and smart defrag and can tell you smart defrag is a great program and free!

Smart Defrag is great and was my top choice till Auslogics came out with this completely and totally new version. Also you can change the colors of the blocks.

They also have a screensaver that defrags your hdd. Some might find it useful.

I'm fairly confident that we have a thread on this too. It came up around the time the forum started. That said Smart Defrag, and that's probably because I haven't tried Auslogics
