so KIS wins CIS in terms of noob-friendliness?

to what extent do you think the 'noob-friendliness' aspect of a security suite, helps in boosting it as a top winner above all other security suites?

picture this example:

i am a noob. i have KIS. i want to download a keygen. KIS wont allow me to. but i really want the keygen. i disable KIS protection and run the keygen. and the keygen was binded with a trojan, now i'm infected.

does this mean that KIS really stink at protection? NO!

therefore, the noob-friendliness argument is a weak one when comparing security suites.

@SSS20:
Yes, and kudos to them for that.
A good idea to say the least.
Though you can choose to run apps outside of the sandbox.
Not that any of us would ever do that, but there's no telling what the average person is capable of.

@mdfareez:
Ideally, KIS's AV (not weak by any means) would've detected it as malware and that'd have been the end of the story.
If by chance it made it past the AV, not unheard of, when they went to install it the Behavior Blocker could very easily flag it as suspicious and again, end of story.
Aside from those two scenarios, the HIPS would kick in as well but that wouldn't matter much -- they need their MSN smileys!

I wouldn't say it's a weak argument, I think a lot of people really care about user friendliness.
I just noticed a thread where a user asked for something noob friendly and was recommended CIS.
Maybe not the best idea IMO.

Just having a solid Behavior Blocker is HUGE IMO.
Add to that the pretty stellar detection rate and again, I say we have a winner.

My $0.02 on the subject.

someone needs to test out CIS and KIS 2010 using a virtual machine.

smash them both with malware after malware.

perhaps, a good thousand malwares would do justice.

do not tweak any configuration, just install, and go ahead and test.

maybe then, a clear winner would be obvious. :)

on a side note, i'm only making use of COMODO Firewall, with zero antivirus protection on my system. and that is already protecting my system better than most AVs can. i am trying everyday to get something pass it, because i don't believe a free product can be that amazing. but so far, COMODO Firewall constantly proves me wrong. unless, something can get past it, i'm willing to concede defeat, if KIS blocks something which CIS can't.

do share your experiences if you encountered such a situation. i'm interested to know.

This really comes down to what you want in a security suite. I want PREVENTION. If it can't get in, I don't have to worry about detection right? If you enjoy finding and killing malware fine, I enjoy never seeing it in the first place, and I go to some fairly "questionable" sites from time to time so CIS is definitely earning it's keep. 8-)

Btw, anyone who is still screaming about popups apparently hasn't used V4. I had to play with my config for quite a while to MAKE it alert me, I thought it was too quiet! Please stop making statements about a product you haven't tried and know nothing about.
