@bogdan: i have acrobat pro. so i kept it. but it is heavy and i looking a free and more secured one. some suggestions?

bogdan recommended Foxit Reader which is free. And probably more secure than Adobe Acrobat.

EDIT: Ooops didn't notice that James already said that. But yes go with Foxit Reader.

Adobe added to much functionality to a simple pdf file... I see no reason for a pdf to be able to execute scripts. So if you ask me, what we really need is new non-proprietary file format replacing pdf. Until then, since most malicious pdf files exploit vulnerabilities in Acrobat, you need to replace it with whatever suites you best. All the above mentioned readers are much faster, less bloated and do the job of reading pdfs just fine. When I look for a freeware product I usually go to techsupportalert.com as they have a good list of products along with short reviews: Best Free Non-Adobe PDF Reader.

Even when using a non-adobe pdf reader you might want to look through the settings and disable JavaScript.

In reference to the comment on WinPatrol which you use to monitor startup items I use DisableStartup which is free and seems to work well with Win7 x64. Obviously there are several programs that could offer such options so it may be something you like, if not nothing lost checking it out.

Download links to softsea which is questionable but the program itself seems fine, just so you are aware.

I think there is an add-on for Microsoft Word that can export your word files as pdf-s. OpenOffice also does this. I find this to be the best method because it keeps the links and the structure (TOC) from the word document. Again, techsupportalert has some recommendations. Unfortunately all free alternatives work as printers, so you can create a pdf file by exporting (printing) from e text editor but I do not know any freeware that you can use to actually edit a pdf. You can still use Adobe writer for creating/editing pdf-s if you need to, just don't use it for reading pdf-s.

WinPatrol free will only alert you after a registry key (for example) was added. The Real-time Infiltration Detection is a feature in the Plus version only. See free vs. payed comparison.

This is why I use what I do, for the real-time aspect and because it is free.
