Incorrect. Dr.WebCurit is a very good malware remover scanner. But it is not as easy to use as MBAM. MBAM updates itself. A complete 60MB new version needs to be downloaded every time you want to use Dr.WebCurit. MBAM can be used when ever you want just to check to see if your real time av missed something. Dr.WebCurit is used ONLY in times of a malware infection. You do not use Dr.WebCurit just to scan for haha's.

Scanning once a week with MBAM is all you need. When you find yourself under a malware attack then download Dr.WebCurit.

I never said it was bad as being a malware remover. I just said it is a inconvenient on-demand scanner.
real time:NIS, NAT firewall, and a 64bit os

on demand:Malware Bytes, Super Antispyware

browser:Chrome, Speed dial, Too Many Tabs, WOT, ClearCloud

Hence the reason that its NOT an on demand scanner. MBAM is an example of an on demand scanner as well as SAS. Even HMP is an on demand scanner.

I had thought I knew of all of the programs used to find and remove malware, but I have to admit, I've never heard of Dr.WebCurit. I really like MBAM and HMP from what I've seen and read online. I do a nightly scan with HMP just before shutdown (takes just over 2min) and a weekly full scan with MBAM. I don't do an avast! scan very often though......Should I?

Dr.WebCurit ia NOT an on demand scanner because a new version needs to be downloaded about every other day or so. Dr.WebCurit along with Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool are NOT on demand scanners. They are tools to remove malware once you are heavily infected and your current av has been compromised.

Regardless, SAS is a colossal waste of time, so you might as well utilize something else, on-demand or not. Correction noted.

DBone.........................Why wouldn't you scan with Avast? Its your resident antivirus.

I guess I figured that if avast! missed it the first time, then it probably wouldn't catch it the next time. But after thinking about it, that's what virus updates are for. How often should I do a full scan with avast! Once per month?

You can run a quick scan once a day and a full scan once a week. Thats how most anti-viruses work such as Norton. Or you can run a quick scan once a week and full scan once a month. Its up to you.

Also, wouldn't the file shield catch malware without running a scan? If it let something through, and then after virus update(s) it now detects it, then wouldn't the file shield throw an alert once the malware began to run?

Yes but malware can hide waiting till it gets a signal to run. Hence the reason you do a full scan. If it was not necessary to run a full scan or quick scan then why did they put those features in? Think a little. If you run a full scan and turn everything up that is more thorough then a file shield.
