Redman2563's Configuration

Postby redman2563 » Fri Aug 05, 2011 10:06 pm

My Current Skill Level:
Advanced

My Operating System:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Latest Service Packs installed:
SP1

Anti-Virus:
Panda Cloud Antivirus Free

Behaviour Blocker:
ThreatFire

Software/Hardware Firewall:
PC Tools firewall free on top of router firewall

On-demand Scanners:
Malwarebytes

My Web Browser:
Google Chrome 13 (stable)

List any Addons/Extensions/Toolbars:
Web of Trust, Adblock Plus, Panda URL Filtering, Norton DNS

Quick question, do you think threatfire would suffer in detection if I leave it at level 3 instead of bumping it up to 4?

Level 4 is the best level you can have Threatfire at. It is recommended by most people. Other than that your config looks great.

Nice configuration, and simple too. I like that.

Nice config. Panda Cloud is my free AV of choice these days. It typically goes back and forth between Avast but right now Panda Cloud is really good for a nice simple AV. For a free Internet Security product I like Comodo 5.8 Beta. But for one that is paid, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is a perfect choice and the best paid AV you can get, IMO (YMMV).

I was trying to find a simple AV for my clients. When I get a virus removal job, I install an antivirus since they mostly have crappy AVS or expired. I only install an AV instead of a layered defense though because most of these people are computer illiterate and If i were to install threatfire and a firewall they'd click allow anyways just to make it go away. So I find it pointless. Personally, I find Avast to be the best but I have two pet peeves with it. It seems to have a lot of false positives and that stupid registration it has. People would just let it expire and it wouldn't protect anymore. It had come down to either MSE or Panda because of the no registration issue. I honestly like panda in every aspect. It does pretty much what mse does, except it can run on very old computers. I've found that MSE slows them down to a crawl. Plus I monitor av-comparatives very closely and find that MSE's detection is greatly slipping. I have thought about comodo with alerts suppressed but then I figure if they try to do something that comodo hasn't whitelisted comodo will block it and then that results in them blowing up my phone.
I went with pc tools firewall because I find comodo's cumbersome. They ask over and over and pc tools is very simple. Only thing I miss is comodo I can view the running processes and block them which I can't seem to do in PC tools but oh well.
