Postby VerTu » Fri Oct 23, 2009 2:48 pm

In your opinion what do you think is the best free or paided defragmenter.

My vote goes to Auslogics Disk Defrag.

Take it from me. I used the ALL. Perfectdisk,Diskeeper and O&O for paid. For free I have used Smart Defrag,Auslogics,Defraggler and Quicksys. All the paid products install a dumb back round service and take for ever to defrag your drives. Perfectdisk took well over an hour on no matter what machine I used. Smart Defrag was always my choice but I never saw much improvement after bench marking my drive. Now with Auslogics new version I am amazed at the over speed of my pc and boot up. No its not just my imagination either. Bench marks also went up. When it comes to disk defraggers there is absolutely no reason to pay for any product.

Auslogics Disk Defrag 3.0.240 gets my vote.

I've always been a fan of Auslogics Disk Defrag, it gets my vote.
There new version is an improvement.

Since using Auslogics (quite a while back now), I have noticed improvement in disk performance - compared to other brands.

Auslogics, best yet. I have tried them all too.
My second choice is Smart Defrag.
Third Choice is Quicksys disk defrag.

They are all free! :D

Honestly speaking have any of you tried Perfectdisk? Its a real nice program with a cool GUI but come on. Why does it take so long and why should you pay for it when it installs 2 services. Blah. Sure it has a boot time defrag but thats a marketing gimmick. Windows does that itself about every 4th boot up.

Here are some Auglogics tweaks that should be done for the best overall performance. These are under "Settings".

1. Click on Program settings and check off "move system files to the beginning of the disk" under the Algorithms tab.

2. Click on Defrag Priority and check off "Real Time Priority".

Correct me please, if I am wrong, but I thought it was actual only for Vista and 7 that are able of doing boot defrag. But for XP users this abbility of PerfectDisc may be very useful.

I tried the latest version of Perfect disc 10 and my 50 gb partiton (20% full it always finished in 10 minutes).
What do you think guys about My defrag? According to Gizmo's freeware it's the most recommended free soft.

I personally love very much Smart Defrag. Great program

Yes you are wrong and 50 gigs isn't much to defrag anyways. I have a 320 gig hard drive with 100 gig of stuff in it. My Defrag is the most ugliest program out there. Let PD do a Smart placement on your entire drive and not just a small partition. I bet it will take over an hour.

Yes, I have tried perfect disk. Nothing special and it takes too long.
