How about symbols from the Runic alphabet? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runic_alphabet

I only have 3 posts yet, but i don't really mind.. 'coz i came here more to read and learn. And having that ranking system is always a good idea to motivate people to contribute as well.

My suggestion about the icons is, why not pattern it after the site admin's icon (rM in a red background) and just change the background color?

for Noob = it would be nC ; color is yellow etc.
Junior Contributor = jC
Active Contributor = aC
Regular Contributor = rC
Senior Contributor = sC
Veteran Contributor = vC
Master Contributor = mC
Elite Contributor = eC
Revered Contributor = revC or hC (Honored)

site admin's color is red. and forum members can always show his own avatar below his rank icon....

ja9219,,,,,,,,,,,,You are probably right.

James,,,,,,,,,,, It is an unorthodox system. It is not likely to come up during a conversation at dinner time.

I am certain that there must be some ranking system from the medieval period that will suffice.

Maybe the Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, or Roman Empires might have what we are looking for. Colorful military and royalty decor would work out well. The enigmatic Samaria might have something that we could implement.
