AVG Linkscanner is fake?

Postby jerenator69 » Sat Jul 03, 2010 6:01 pm

Okay so on my VM i was testing some stuff with AVG. I used the link scanner, and it said that the fake Google ad posing to be TrendMicro.com but is really a malware site was GREEN! Also i looked up on Malware Domain List and googled the domains, and AVG STILL said they were green? The link scanner seriously needs to be fixed. Anyone else have opinions?

I know i use WOT for my original OS, this is on my VM. But i am just saying, their link scanner is really messed up... they need to fix it ASAP or else they will be losing a lot of people. They lost me already.

I'm not surprised! They announce their LinkScanner acting like it's good and then you figure out that you could determine good and bad sites better than this thing just by guessing...

SiteAdvisor/Safe Web/Browser Defender would probably have flagged it as safe too. Did you check the site with those?

AVG LinkScanner is not fake, it's just not community-based like WOT.

Also most Google Ads are suspicious.. did you get infected upon visiting the site?

Yes i did, i had to use my Kaspersky rescue disk to clean my pc and doctor webs cure it finished the job. It doesn't matter if it's community based or not, they need to actually scan the page THOROUGHLY to get something good out of it for the users. Every single google ad i see when i search "free antivirus" has a green mark on it. Even though half of the ads are all malicious sites. They really need to update this, also the WOT community doesn't affect the actual rating, everyone could rate it bad but it could still be on green but it wouldn't have the star, community reviews wont take the safety down on WOT.
