AVG is incredibly heavy, 9 processes man, 9 processes!

MSE is okay, but it needs other features

I would choose MSE. The only thing I see bad about it is that it does not have a self protection, stated by other users.

I've used MSE 1.0/2.0 on my VM ..and the 2.0 on my system for 3days.
AVG 2011 - only in my vm and just for testing.....
1.Antivirus
If we look at the latest Av compratives test ..august 2010....we can notice that AVG has a better detection rate then MSE.
However in the real world .....thoose 2-3% that both missed would mean a lot.
I've tested this suites as a standalone in my VM,many many times...and let me tell you that they've both detected a lot of malware samples..however....they've also missed some samples...so i've got stuck whit a infected VM in both cases.....

2.Extra-Features (HIPS,Firewall,Sandbox.....)
MSE 1.0 has no extra features....however MSE 2.0 will bring some new features
New features in this beta version:

Windows Firewall integration – During setup, Microsoft Security Essentials will now ask if you would like to turn the Windows Firewall on or off.

Enhanced protection for web-based threats – Microsoft Security Essentials now integrates with Internet Explorer to provide protection against web-based threats.

New protection engine – The updated anti-malware engine offers enhanced detection and cleanup capabilities with better performance.

Network inspection system – Protection against network-based exploits is now built in to Microsoft Security Essentials.

AVG 2011 Free..... the most important new feature that this build of avg delivers is the AntiRootkit module.......even if for avast, avira and mse ...removing rootkits is a standard op...for AVG has just now become a standard job.
LinkScanner and ID Protection (behavioral analysis) are the things that put AVG 2011 over MSE when it comes to extrafeatures.
3.Overall prevention capabilites.
Limited. If you think that just a ativirus can protect you ..then you're mad!
3. Removal capabilites
AVG 2011 Free - slowwww
MSE - very Slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww
4. System Impact
AVG 2011 - light ...i know..9 processes..but it's light!
MSE - light ...i know ... 80MB of Ram...but it's light!
5. GUI
AVG 2011 - simple...the add at the bottom ...is annoying...
MSE - very user friendly UI.
6.Usability (User friendliness)
Both easy to use ......

If i had to choose i would go whit MSE 2.0.However please have in mind ..that NO antivirus can protect you 100% as a stand alone....you'll always need a second line of defense.

LOL sorry well I did try both.. I found AVG to be heavier than MSE. Now the thing I hated the most about AVG was that bug. It slowed my internet down. Both have good detection rates, but of course never run a standalone antivirus. You will need a second line of defense. Well hope that helped :D . I couldn't answer all those categories. I am a bit exhausted at the moment.
