SandBoxie - can this program protect me ?

Postby ThunderZ0N3 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:31 pm

Alright... I have runned Comodo IS and have been infected with it. It didnt protect me.

Now, I re-installed Windows from scratch, and wanted to know? Does SANDBOXIE still work? It's an old program, isnt there Malware that can pass by Sandboxie?

And some more questions about it:

1. Will it protect me? Like, I know it doesnt show its Malware, but can it block it from the System?
2. If I download Malware, and its running inside the Sandbox, can it drop files like to: "C/Programs(86x)" or "Windows32"

Please answer.. I need new Protection - Im just plain stupid at Malware! I download everything! Whenever I get an Antivirus, I test it to see if it works(like malwaredomainlist.com) I test a few links... I know, I'm retarded.

But please, CAN SANDBOXIE PROTECT ME STILL? :-)

Regards,
ThunderZ0N3!

I dont know if this post is genuine, but what the hell.

Read how a program works before you download it: http://www.sandboxie.com/

Yes Sandboxie still works it's an amazing program. Yes there is malware that can bypass Sandboxie as there is with any security software. Malware is very much a like a real life virus. Constantly mutating itself to beat cures.

1) Read the website.
2) Read the website.

If you need a new setup go here: viewforum.php?f=58

Again, i hope the OP was genuine...

You shouldn't test malware with just Sandboxie. Most people use a VM, but everything can be bypassed, so the really smart people use vm's on an old pc.

When you say Sandboxie...do you mean Sandboxie
or the Comodo Sandbox?

We have a forum in which we can help you build a solid security config - viewforum.php?f=58

Guys, I know you can help me build a solid security config etc... But everyday(with my security) I would go on either Eicar or Malwaredomainlist and test if it works..... I'm a stupid user seriously... :(

No security in the world can protect you from yourself.

Sounds like your just in here causing trouble. No one in there right mind goes to MDL on a daily basis unless you have some sort of addition. I have heard of AA but never have I heard of MA.

Their is no need to test a security solution on your real system.....
Just install VirtualBox and then you can do some testing in a virtual enviroment.....Testing on your real system is not recommended... ;)
And btw..their more to security then just an antivirus or firewall.....just start a new topic in the How is my config forum and we will help you...

Norton IS is always a good go. Kaspersy Is a good one too, though I have never used it.

It all depends on what you like best. Correct me if I am wrong, but Comodo is a more advanced IS suite, not just for protection, but using it as well. Based on languy99's videos, it does seem like it can be a little intimidating to the novice.

I am probably not the one to tell you this as I sometime play chicken with malware to test my security occasionally there, but DO NOT EVER go to the Malware Domain List without at the very least some sort of isolation software such as sandboxie. What if the malware gets by whatever IS suite you decide on? It goes to your system and wreaks havoc. This is true for anything.

Sandboxiw is a great application that will protect you well, but I highly recommend using a good strong IS suite along with it.

Feel free to correct/add to anything I have typed here.
Protection: Norton Internet Security 2011 Aggressive Heuristic, Boot time, and SONAR
Malwarebytes Pro
Sandboxie
Norton DNS
On demand: Hitman Pro, SuperAntiSpyware
Browser: Firefox
