Norton Security action.....

Postby ThisNameWasntTaken » Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:06 pm

Though this to me seems like no problem at all as I have had no problems, I still want to ask.

Once I scan my laptop with one of my on demand scanners (MBAM, SAS, Hitman Pro) when I look in Norton Internet Security's security history, I always see a medium alert logged noting that an attack on Norton's program by said on-demand scanners has been blocked. I have been ignoring this as I have seen no problems come from this. To me, Norton just doesn't like being scanned by my on-demand scanners. Am I right to ignore this, or should I be concerned?

Your not scanning Norton with MBAM or SAS. Your scanning your PC with MBAM and SAS. Care to post a screen shot of only the history report you speak of. You are clearly mis-reading what NIS is telling you. What history is this logged under? I scan with MBAM and HMP all the time and never such a history report of that have I ever seen. NIS does not know that SAS and MBAM are on demand scanners. Thanks.

Could the logs be showing Norton blocking other scanners from accessing Norton installation path/quarantine, see below:
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\*

Does it look something like this?

MBAM was just trying to scan Norton files but Norton tamper protection blocked the action. Perfectly normal.

Yes pranagtr, that's it. Tomo172 nailed it right on the head though. That is exactly what I mean. Figured it was something like Norton didn't like being scanned by my on-demand. I figured also that it was nothing to worry about as I noticed nothing unusual happening with my laptop otherwise.

Thanks for the answer. :D

I have never seen that alert at all. Maybe cause your doing a full scan with MBAM and not a quick scan? Quick scans is all you need. Hey Tomo................Your NIS is out of date. The new version is 18..5.0.125. Unless you never deleted the old folders. I think you got your 18.5.0.125 update via Live Update which never erased your history, My history only goes back to the beginning of this year cause I did an uninstall and re-install if NIS.

I have the newest version 18.5.0.125 which came through LiveUpdate. That log is from December 20th. I got the update January 7th.

Ok and how did you trigger that log from Norton? Right after performing a full scan with MBAM? Full scans are only needed after a malwware cleanup. I actually never even look at my logs. No reason to.

I can't remember, but It was most likely a full scan. Could be wrong.

Dieselman, just do a scan (quick/full doesn't matter, as long as it scans the Norton directory) with an on-demand scanner, and once finished, look in the Norton Internet Security history, and something similar to what we speak of should be there. Doesn't pop up automatically, but it is still in there. Hope this helps.
