How do I connect to the net with a danish Windows 7??

Postby JTHA80 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:27 am

Hi,

my brother lives in Denmark and when he visited us he brought with him a new desktop computer that he gave my parents; and when he left they were eager to set it up - however the f#$%(%# system os is in danish; needless to say I need instructions with graphic images and text in english (the system os in the images can be in english) on how to connect Windows 7 to the internet (through a router, as we have a wi-fi connection) and the os is Windows 7 home premium (don't know what info more is need as I'm not a technically minded man).

Thank you very, very, very much in advance

Hi, and sorry for my late reply (setting up this f***ing danish computer isn't the highest on my priority list) - but it seems like she doesn't see any net - on the overview of wifi's is only our home wifi, and surprisingly it doesn't show the name of the wifi, but the passcode and to the right of the passcode is an red circle with a white x in it - and clicking on this doesn't do anything.

Would you be able to supply us with a screenshot of how it looks?

Sure, and no idea why it comes under "Opkald" and virtual private network - we have neither at home, only wireless wifi.

I blocked out some text there, as can be seen :D (sorry about my memory lapse about how the icon looked like)

I did some translating on google translate:
Ikke tilsluttet = not connected
Der er forbindelser tilgaengelige = There are connections available
Opkald og VPN = Dial and VPN

How close are you to your network when you try to find it, and in the network and sharing centre (Abn Netvaerks - og delingscenter) on the left bar there should be 4 options you can click, click change adapter settings (3rd down) and when you are in there make sure you have a wireless network connection in there that is enabled.

Also if you go into device manager (you can do this by opening run and typing devmgmt.msc) scroll down to network adapters and click expand and post a picture of anything that appears when you expand it

Also what brand of computer is it and model of computer is it?

Thanks, and here are some screenshots - hope they are ok; somehow or another, the computer wants an ethernet connection ... at least that's what I gather (and where this desktop computer is located was another desktop pc, which is running Windows XP and getting slow - and instead of calling a pc service which could propably set up the Windows 7 computer they just wanted me (since I couldn't do anything due to the danish setup) to set up the old XP computer again; so every night when they aren't using it for web browsing or email, I unplug it and plug the Windows 7 computer in)

Oh, and the computer is Emachines EL1330, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, AMD Athlon II 160u processor

Well i looked up the computer and it looks like its only made for LAN connections (Local Area Network) which means it can only connect via ethernet if it had wireless i think it would have a wireless driver of some sort which on the emachines driver support website its showing lan drivers for it and not wlan, so to get internet im pretty sure you have to be pluged in.

So basically I've got a pretty heavy paperweight ... and no wonder I had never heard of this brand name before, seeing as they pull these stupid stunts.

Guess my last life line will be to contact them (and I can't believe I have to register on their site to get help !!)

But once again, thank you so every much for your help
