Microsoft Releases 3 Critical Updates for June, Fake Amazon Confirmations and More…

Microsoft has released 3 Critical Updates that should be applied immediately:

MS12-036 - Affects remote desktop.  This sucks for me.  Looks like I’ve got some servers to patch.

MS12-037 - Very nasty bug that affects all versions of Internet Explorer.  Just visiting a page targeting this bug is enough to get infected by malware since the attacker will have the same rights as the visitor (which is usually an administrator)

MS12-038 - Pretty much the same as 037, however it requires a browser that can run XAML Browser Applications (XBAPs)

Amazon Fake Emails…

Watch out for fake Amazon emails with subjects like – “ Your Amazon.com order confirmation. ”  Clicking on links in those email lead to sites hosting malware / exploits.  Here’s a sample that hit our barracuda spam filter:

Lookin Forward to it. They say AVG is getting better do you agree?

      • mrizos

Hard to say at this point. We’ll talk more after I upload this review.

        • Bubba

When you say “We’ll talk more after” do you know we will talk after I watched the review on Youtube?

  • mrizos

Finished part 3 (the AVG Rescue Part). Part 4 (prevention) was just too boring. I’m going to redo it tomorrow (this time I’ll be using Malc0de’s list or URL’s).

      what is Malcode?

      • mrizos

It’s a database of malware that gets updated daily. My only gripe with it is that they don’t label the malware and there are too many PUPs.

        • Bubba

          Alright thanks.

matt,malc0de contains a lot of non-malware links…so only touch the ones that look like malware

    • mrizos

Yeah, I noticed. It sucks. I’m looking for a reliable source of zero day links. It makes doing my prevention reviews
