Remove-Malware News and Notes 8.30.11

mac defenderSo where did all the fake anti-virus go?

Russian authorities busted their payment processing systems (ChronoPay) effectively crushing the fake anti-virus business almost overnight.  I personally think someone got a nice payoff in Russia from Apple (Apple has more money than some countries btw).

Think back just a few months ago…Mac Defender.  Remember that Rogue AV that was quickly giving Apple a bad name.  Mere weeks after Mac Defender was gaining some ground, Russia magically busted ChronoPay (and other payment processing networks).  So what took Russia so long (years in fact).  Hmmmm…looks pretty suspicious to me.

    You are probably right.

All business and gov’t in Russia is part of an organized crime network that has been operating since the beginning of the Romanov Dynasty, whether anyone likes it or not.

I wonder how hard it is to remove this one.

I am a little curious to the other rogues they made.

Sometimes the only way you can deal with the Russian mafia is to pay a lot of money. I guess Apple found that out.

Though we know that Kaspersky and Dr. Web are very useful and legitimate for our purposes in malware removal, you better believe they deal with the Russian mafia, whether it is gov’t interference or private sector based harassment. That is why American business men had so much trouble setting roots over there after the deconstruction of the Eastern Block; no matter what transaction you engage in over in Russia, the Russian mob has there hands in it one way or another.
