Barry submitted a config for review…
My security configurations are…
comodo and geswall. I was using geswall and drivesentry then changed to comodo. Have I done the right thing. Thought i would go with comodo because of real time scanning and defence+ for extra security. By the way your video’s have been a great help to me, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the compliments! I think Comodo and MBAM free + SAS free might be the way to go.
Comodo’s Defense+ is basically the same or better than GesWall.
Not a big fan of geswall or the desktop version of Drivesentry to be honest. I do plan on buying a license for the one that protects USB sticks though.
Also, you can’t go wrong with Comodo really. That Defence+ is amazing. Can’t really live without it now.
I agree with MBAM. I use it a a backup on the off chance I get infected. I always make a point of installing it on my computer. SAS is also brilliant but it doesn’t work with Windows 7 yet.
I think that Comodo is lighter than GesWall, but Comodo is better than
Drive Sentry IMHO!
A hard one hmmm…
I suggest you replace GesWall Comodo with a good antivirus and a behavioural blocker.
Comodo is only suited for advanced users due to the pop ups. And although GesWall is very effective, it is largely unecessary if
BTW D+ and GesWall are completely different, you can’t compare them.

Hi Barry,
You do not need GesWall if you have CIS (Firewall and AV). CIS will protect you fine.
Don’t worry about pop ups… Smart Mode will be out soon with v3.10 of CIS and you will notice little, if not ZERO, pop ups from CIS. This is where CIS can auto allow and Dennie certain requests.
Btw: v3.9 of CIS is pretty quite to be honest…
Cheers,
Josh
Yes Comodo might have lots of popups, however it makes you more aware of what is going on and in my opinion that is always a good thing. In time it will learn and you will get less and less popups. If you rather not be ‘bothered’ by it, you can activate Password Protection and have the popups disabled, I think it will then block everything unknown.
I used Drivesentry myself, but recently switched to CIS after I have seen Matt’s review on CIS. I like to have more control over my PC and CIS is doing exactly that.
@Someone: Both Firefox and Foxit have vulnerabilities. It is true that they are not often exploited and that they are fixed faster. Anything with JavaScript (or any other way to execute code on user’s machine without explicit permission) is dangerous.
@Barry: You did really well to switch. DriveSentry is not an antivirus. It uses big blacklists and whitelists of hashes with the purpose of lowering the number of pop-ups. Those aren’t virus signatures. If a file on your PC gets infected with a “patching virus” you can’t use DriveSentry to disinfect it.
I am not sure that Comodo’s AV is the best antivirus to use (yet).You can install another AV (like Avira free) and Comodo (deselect antivirus during install).
Most AV products ignore rogues (Avira does too) so you need to scan your PC with Mbam ans SAS from time to time.
@Matthew: I wouldn’t feel so secure about DriveSentry USB protection. It installs on your USB disk and adds an autorun.inf file on it, so it it loads DriveSentry when autorun is loaded. However it will not work on systems where autorun is disabled / fails to load or onfects the USB before DriveSentry is loaded.
@Dario: True but on a clean USB it adds strong protection. So a clean USB with Drivesentry installed will protect USBs from being infected in the first place. And thats a handy thing if you remove viruses off peoples computers. You mostly rely on USB to carry around things like MBAM to install and run on a clients computer.
Also, this is just a guess but I assume the majority of people don’t have autorun turned off. But either way, you just double click the drivesentry icon in the usb itself and you’re good to go. Autorun or no autorun.
@bogdan: Whether you use Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safrai or Adobe, etc as your PDF, these software should NOT be used to protect you. It’s not about “stop this stop that” in order to be protected. It’s about enablement, and having the right TOOLS to protect your system.
Cheers,
Josh
@Bogdan
Yes, but the vulnerabilities are exploited far less by real world malware compared to IE, Adobe Reader, etc.
@Deadly Pawn
Why shouldn’t it? Why would you need the “right tools to protect your system” when you don’t get infected in the first place?
hi guys
Thanks for all your comments. I do have sas and mbytes for removal now. Geswall i use extra till I get into defence+ also I actually found they work together really well but will drop geswall eventually if you all think I dont need it with comodo.If you look at how much Ram they use its really good. I found drivesentry heavier, gesswall so light have checked it out on task manager,but be careful with Threatfire and comodo found some problems there.
