A new config from Matthew

Ok guy’s Matthew submitted a config….wadda’ think:

Normally I have Nod32 v4 installed alongside prevx and comodo firewall but today I’m trying out PC Tools Internet Security 2009 alongside Prevx. Brilliant as it is, PC Tools is still quite a hog so I’ll probably go back to Nod and comodo soon.

Honestly, since PC 2009 IS has threatfire included you can probably ditch the prevx…just a thought.

I was thinking that myself but I far prefer Prevx. The interface has dramatically changed recently if you haven't seen.

Its the ultimate protection really. Nod32 (for prevention. And boy does it prevent), Prevx Edge (to detect any malicious software that I think is safe that I try and install. Rarity btw but its nice to have that added layer anyway) and Comodo Firewall (to thwart would be hackers). I reckon I'm well safe. Lol

I went back to Nod32 and Comodo as PC Tools doesn't really play nice with Windows 7 as of yet. Not cause of Prevx though as Prevx seemingly plays nice with every AV/ISS around.

In the setup it actually said that its not compatible with Windows 7. Compatibility mode says I. Not a chance says they. Lol

Can't wait to test a version that they say is Windows 7 compatible though as PC Tools are one of my fav paid internet security companies.

    Hi Matt and Matt !-)

I did try out PC 2009 4 month a go after Matt reviwed it,

and Yes I did also get the experience of a hog.

And PC tools recommended me to get more hardware RAM! They said "You should at least have 1GB of ram to get PC 09 to run normal.

So unless you got 1GB of RAM i would go back!

Since you're going to go back to Nod and Prevx I suggest you ditch Comodo as it's really only suitable for very advanced users due to all the pop ups. Common sense and safe surfing practices are more important than any security application.

From what I have seen form Matt's review on Prevx, it looks like a solid application to run alongside your existing antivirus (or alone). Personally, I like to have one software that has it all (firewall, AV, HIPS, etc..) and to me that would be Comodo Internet Security. If you are the type that wants to know and control everything that is going on on your pc, then CIS would be the best choice. However, if you are less tech savvy, then I would replace CIS for Kaspersky or Norton. If you do lots of browsing and have a shared PC, then I would have the browser run in a sandbox such as sandboxie.

Malware can spread inside a LAN. On a big LAN, I think it is a good thing to have a firewall (software or hardware). Also malware can infect PCs using security bugs in OS/software even without user interaction, so updates are a must.

If you don't like pop-ups maybe you should try sandboxing instead of HIPS.

Maybe its just me but I hate my commit charge in TM to be over 180 so I use outpost security pro and sandboxie. smallest foot print your gonna get great combo. would love to see mat test outpost security or antivirus outpost makes great apps with no foot print it should be tested.
