Common Questions and Answers for the Past 3 Months

In an effort to save some typing (since I suck at it)  I thought I’d answer a few questions.

So what’s your favorite anti-virus right now?

That’s really a 2 part answer.  Microsoft Security Essentials for PC’s with Dual Cores (and above) with at least 1 GB of RAM.  Avira AntiVir for PC’s with slower processors and less RAM (under 1 GB).

Can you do a review of…?

Before you ask this question search my channel.  I’ve probably made a video on it.

Can you look at my HiJackThis log?

No.  HiJackThis logs do not expose all the malware on your PC.  Don’t send them to me.

How do you make your videos more than 10 minutes long on YouTube?

I’m a YouTube partner.  Look it up.

What do you use to record your videos?

Camtasia.  I suppose the reason they look so good is the YouTube partner thing.

You never talk about “product name here” anymore, do you still like it?

90% of the time, yes.  If something drastically changes for the worst I’ll usually make a post about it.

Can you review “product” beta?

Usually no, simply because I get lot’s of  “wow, your review means nothing since the product is only in beta”.  Sometimes I do make beta videos when I don’t give a sh*t what people think :P

Can you get me a serial for this product?

You’re a moron.

Do you do full or quick scans?

I usually only do quick scans.  Quick scans know where to scan for malware and this saves a ton of time.

I’ve got a few more to answer, I’ll post them in a bit.

    Matt,
Can you do a review about Shadow Defender? I looked at your channel and I didn’t see a video review about it.
    Thanks.

  • JimBob

Can you get me a serial number for… Sorry….couldn’t pass that up.

  • Brian

I use comodo cause it works very well and doesn’t use hardly any resorces. ya you kind of have to know what your doing, but as soon as it learns your programs, it pretty much goes silent.

    COMODO THE BEST

  • Dieselman

Brian……….aka another brain washed victim of Comodo Vision. I love it. Comodo fanboys all bow down to the almighty Melih.

  • http://www.sandboxie.com ssj100

Enough with the blatant insults already Dieselman? Matt, I’m surprised you’re allowing this. So much bitterness and a feeling of antagonism every time I read your blogs with Dieselman posting haha.

Is he really one of the forum moderators too? Anyway, if you’re going to accept his online “behaviour”, I’ll also go with it. I guess it makes for some amusement for myself. I’m just worried for your other readers who may be feeling insecure to start off.

  • Rick

    Matt,

Can you do a test on running multiple multiple scanners at once and see if they fight together to a point of letting through more then the average amount of malware. I am running Windows 7on Bootcamp on a Mac, and use it basically for my daughters Flash(malware) games. We find lots of malware in them. I don’t care about sucking up ram and processor cycles. I run Avira free, Microsoft Security Essentials, Threatfire, and PrevX free all at once. Run mbam and SAS every month.

  • Rick
  • JimBob

    Matt…

I agree with ssj100…and I’m sure many others do. I think you’re going to lose some people if they are constantly insulted and put down by Dieselman. I find the behavior to be quite childish.

  • Dieselman

I am not insulting anyone. Make a statement like “Comodo is the best” and thats what you get.

  • Johan

Yea I also think it’s wierd that you Dieselman really is a Moderator in Matt’s forums!

Since, one should never have an smartass/ego as an Moderator.

And BTW I use CIS as well, and not because I am in love with Melih, or COMODO for that matter.
I use CIS becuase it works the way I want.

And only because you seem to have negative energy around you Dieselman doesn’t mean you need to spread it to others.

So time to grow up and behave as a mature!

  • John

I agree with SSJ100. Dieselman is the reason why I can’t stand the forums.
When someone asks a question in the wrong forum, he’ll dumb down the person asking it.
Anyways, if can find a new moderator….that would be fantastic :D !
I know for a fact that I would be coming to this website more often. Nobody needs the smartass/immature/narcissistic ego.
Thanks Matt. Hope you listen to our comments.

  • John

Dieselman stated that he doesn’t insult people…Apparently he doesn’t know what he’s typing then :(

  • Dieselman

Who is negative. I sure am not. Even Wilders dislikes you Comodo fanboys.

  • Ross

Lol!! Dieselman you are a kaspersky fan boy….

    Everyone dislikes fan boys.

  • malwarekilla

Wow…anti-virus drama again. The forums are a big pain in my ass.

  • ycantiregister

“Wow…anti-virus drama again. The forums are a big pain in my ass.”

Don’t fix the effect, correct the cause. ;-)

  • ycantiregister

Apologies for the duplicate post. I didn’t notice the “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” Please delete the second post.

  • JimBob

I imagine it is a pain, but that’s what a moderator is supposed to do *for you*. A moderator should always be professional and someone that people can look up to, not be demeaned by. It’s obvious that many have been offended by Dieselman’s constant belittling. This is a great site, but the bad egg in the bunch is making the site stink.

  • 3xist

I find this VERY hard to believe. I am finding it very hard to believe how and why Dieselman (AKA Vettetech) is a Moderator on Matt’s Forum. The behaviour demonstrated here is totally unacceptable for a Moderator, even for a “non powered” forum user it’s unacceptable! Hence, Maybe SELF-MODERATION needs reassuring!? This should NOT be tolerated at all and Matt should not have to put up with such arogant attitude and behaviour, After working his blood, sweat and tears into his videos, into this blog, and into the forum… And “Dieselman” is REPERSENTING what Matt’s doing by being a Moderator on the forums, hence more damage is done then good.

As I am a moderator on the Comodo Forums my self, I strongly advise Matt, for your own sake, to really reconsider Dieselman’s position on your forum and take the approperiate action, as a friend of yours.

    Cheers
    Josh
    Comodo Forum Moderator

  • Dieselman

Well for one thing there is no such thing as “the best”. Every av has its downfalls. I use KIS but I sure dont go around saying “KIS is the best”.

  • http://daily-security.blogspot.com/ geohac

Matt, they bring up a good point. You might want to listen to them if you want more visitors to your forum. ;)

  • malwarebuster

Seriously stop fighting…. If Dieselman was never a mod at the forums we would have alot of problems.

  • Buck

As a member of the forum I for one due appreciate Dieselman input. Is he rough around the edges at times,YES but it’s not easy directing traffic on the forum. He put a hell of allot of his own time into the forum to help others And I appreciate it.. Drive on Dieselman.

  • Dieselman

Thank you malwarebuster and Buck. Kudos.

  • http://www.tom-icon.com Tom Icon

Matt, saw you on u-tube… outstanding info…. I was just wondering where exactly can I find the step-by-step instructions you mentioned at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ah3efRdWes
I was wondering where I can down load the XP security council program?
    Tom

  • GakunGak

Dieselman is sometimes rough, but just. He is knowledgeable, and I can confirm that. Now, to clarify some things:
    1. KIS is a personal choice for Petrolman because he knows it is a complete product and it works as it should. It is simplified in terms of reading warning messages and control.
    2. Comodo is also a great program/suite, and works really well. It does it’s job as it should. But it is not for typical person on the internet, more for security guru’s…. I mean, you don’t need a virus protection if you prop up defense + on paranoid mode and have to allow every time you move a mouse…
There are thing that need to be fixed before implementing other stuff, like sandbox etc…..
    3. There has to be some law and order on the forum. Petrol does a great job, or otherwise malwarekilla/Matt would have replaced him long ago. He does what is expected of him.

    Thanks and respect to all.

  • clocks

Not to pile on, but I have to agree with the others about Dieselman. At times it is hard to read the forums, as he is very aggressive with many of the posters, and many times, overbearing.

  • pp in bumbum

Dood, Kingsoft AV is the best hansd down. therres notighin better than it at viruses omg. stop bein so downy cuase u all know kingsoft is the master

  • RossN

Lol, might aswell add my bit in. I think Dieselman can take his job to serisouly sometimes, but the forum wouldnt really work without him. He is an essential part of the forum because he keeps things where they are supposed to be and he brings a wealth of knowledge to the forum.

  • Dieselman

I wouldn’t have to be so harsh is people could simply obey the rules. I am more of a babysitter then a Mod.

  • malwarebuster

Its funny how we ended up talking about how Dieselman is taking his job seriously.

  • Dieselman

LOL. Its not a job. Its an adventure. Cheers.

  • Dieselman

Working for GM for 20 years now as a tech is a job.

  • visitor

I read most of the security forums to keep up with new developments.
I’ve never seen anyone manage to screw up the “general vibe” of a board quite like Dieselman.
    Quite sad, actually.

  • malwarekilla

Ok, here’s some thoughts, opinions…call it whatever.

    1. Dieselman can be a smart ass and sometimes downright rude however he works his ASS off on the forums and I need someone like this.

    2. Dieselman answers just about every question out there with a real response. Not a lot of fluff, solid info.

    3. I’ll be working with all mods to keep this a friendly place.

    4. Please read the rules.

    5. Don’t get “internet tough” and start writing something you wouldn’t say to another persons face. Think before you blowup. Chill.

    6. Who cares what “the best” is. I mean…jeez…just secure your PC and get on with life. It’s not like we’re talking sports or hotrods.

    7. If you’re soooo offended with another forum member or mod shoot me an email at mrizos@gmail.com with a url to the post in question.

  • Dieselman

Cheers Matt. BTW people 3xsist has quit about 7 times as a Mod. Never trust a quitter.Say what you want people but I get the job done.

  • Sheen

pop corn anyone? crunch crunch crunch!

  • Dieselman

LOL. Cheers sheen. Come join our forums people.

  • GakunGak

I know this is stupid, but why is quoting messages forbidden by the rules? Almost all global forums on the internet has quotes….
    Just a thought…

  • Sheen

here you go Dieselman, toss up yeah! I’m aleady registered just lurking around forum reading with my pop corn….. ;-)

  • Dieselman

LOL. Glad you joined Sheen. Welcome aboard.

  • idontlikemalware

@Dieselman, I don’t think I do need a babysitter in this forum and your comments are nothing but the showoff. You’re a 40 year old kid. You have offended me. Think man think.

  • Jazz

    SSJ100,

Speakin of being “banned” you’ve been banned yourself from wilders because of your behavior there so,careful what you say there.

  • Samuru

Ok, all you ppl need to get a life…… yea Dieselman maybe a “babysitter” but it’s his job, and “babysitter” is more like a metaphor for fixing people’s problems. Everyone makes mistake no matter what you say. No one is perfect. Yes, Dieselman maybe strict but ideally this is for the better. A world without rules is chaos. Dieselman has done a lot with organizing the forums and keeping them on topic. The forums are to get the facts about things, while keeping the drama at a minimum. Yes, there can still be fun in the forums but it should still be respectful. And for your information everyone has a “interkid” in them that is bought out from some external stimulus, i.e. cars, sports, friends, etc.

  • idontlikemalware

@Samuru, as you mentioned “respect” the others and that’s not too much of asking. And I’m done with you Samuru.

  • InEvX

Can we just drop the subject about Dieselman? Sometimes a tad bit smartassISH, but he gets the job done. End of story!
Nonetheless, I think those malware needs a tad bit more attention…
We need new Kaspersky, Norton, etc products. :(
No new products equates to no new videos.
    Good night everybody!

  • http://www.sandboxie.com ssj100

It seems Dieselman should follow Matt’s advice then? Matt wrote:
“5. Don’t get “internet tough” and start writing something you wouldn’t say to another persons face. Think before you blowup. Chill.”

    Dieselman wrote:
“Brian……….aka another brain washed victim of Comodo Vision. I love it. Comodo fanboys all bow down to the almighty Melih.”

I’m not sure where everyone here is from, but I personally would find that insulting if it was said to my face. Instead, if I was the moderator, I would have replied something like:
“Brian, there is no such thing as “the best”. However, glad to see that Comodo is working out well for you. It is good software…by the way, have you watched Matt’s reviews of it?”

  • killer

your a typical computer store guy, you have relative knowledge anybody who does a small amount of work on windows, you rely on other software to remove viruses for you, i have removed a virus from within an exe to make the program work without infecting computers.

  • Dieselman

idontlikemalware………..You of all people. I have never had to issue you a warning so why are you complaining. And ssj100 good point but are you aware of the Comodo fanboyism that goes on in every forum? Most Comodo users think they are invisible and making a comment like that proves it. Especially when you put it in caps. With Melih shouting “prevention is the cure”. Blah. What is prevention without common sense. You can use all the security you want but unless you know about common sense surfing you will always be a victim of malware.

  • clocks

There are “fanboys” of every type, but a Mod should be impartial. Dieselman spews Comodo hate at every chance he gets. It gets old, whether you are a Comodo fan or not.

  • Dieselman

Excuse me but if you join the forums you would clearly see that I always say Comodo is a great firewall and I do recommend it. I do not bash Comodo. only there fanboys. Get your facts straight.

  • clocks

You “do not bash Comodo”?!?! Who are you crapping???????

  • Dieselman

    Show me where I did.

  • clocks

Sure, I don’t have to go far: “Brian……….aka another brain washed victim of Comodo Vision. I love it. Comodo fanboys all bow down to the almighty Melih.”

  • clocks

It was a totally uncalled for attack on Brian and Comodo.

  • malwarekilla

No bashing, stay neutral…stay professional. That goes to everyone.

  • RossN

Wow lol. This is quite sad, you guys are arguing over the internet. Im only 14 but for gods sake some of you need to mature. Dieselman you are either 40 or nearly 40 and a mod, surely you have the intelligence to post a comment that doesn’t offend people. I think there is also some people just wanting an arguement on this website, and i think it is very childish how a few of you pick up on the slightest comment and turn it into a full scale arguement lol….
    So yeah…

  • clocks

@RossN – I think this has been brewing for a while(re the moderation). I don’t think it is a matter of people just looking for a fight. From what I have seen the posters on the site/board are a pretty decent bunch.

  • RossN

I know lol i post alot on the forum, and i was a reader of it a long time before i actually signed up.

  • Dieselman

Remember this Ross. You knew nothing till you came to the forums. 123zap and myself taught you tons. Remember all the PM’s you sent me and how much I helped you. Dont burn your bridges.

  • Victor

There is a new build from Avira Premium Security Suite beta and Avira AntiVir Professional beta with a lot of fixes.
The Build Number is 25. This build is also for 64bit Systems.

  • Cody

I love the drama. I have been a viewer of this forum for a while. Not registered, and have never posted but from what I’ve seen Dieselman can be an ass hole, but he’s pretty straight up with people and doesn’t bull shit. It’s the internet, if you can’t take the shit gtfo?

  • Bloated Elvis

Victor please…… What does AntiVir have to do with assassinating Dieselman’s character?
    *cough*
    Please stay on topic

    kisses,
    Bloated

  • RossN

Dieselman they’re was no disrespect intended and as i have said many times i am thankful. I just thing that some people need to mature, that is all.

  • Thomas

Excuse me, I’m 11. What does bashing mean? Oh and y on earth would someone ask Matt :Can you get me a serial for this product?
P.S The old theme was better.

  • Victor

    @Bloated Elvis,
I refered about Avira because I think it’s time We use this space to talk about security issues. That’s the reason I’m here. All the best for you!

  • http://daily-security.blogspot.com/ geohac

Thomas, “bashing” is when you say negative things about a person or subject with no basis (being critical). For example, “you are ugly” or “that product sucks”
In other words, to insult and attack!

  • http://none Jeremiah

Hey Matt, for some reason my program files were deleted from my registry and now they dont show up in my add/remove programs but they work. It says “you have no programs installed” I am running windows 7 home premium 32-bit. any help?

  • Dieselman

Jeremiah is you need help join the forums. This is a blog and not a help area.

  • http://none Bryan

I’ll just answer the first question about what I use on my P.C.,..Kudos to you, Matt…You’ve helped a lot of people, including myself, with any and all security issues. I am currently using Microsoft Security Essentials, though I bounce back and forth to Avira free, when doing clean installs, SUPERAntispyware Pro, with real-time protection, Threatfire, for H.I.P.S., and for short scans, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. For big problems, Sophos anti-rootkit, and, or, the bootable Avira or Kaspersky rescue discs. With this combination, who needs a firewall, anyway??

  • http://none Bryan

Excuse me, that is the free version of Malwarebytes for on-demand scans, and Windows firewall IS on,…though it sometimes has a mind of it’s own…..

    Gotta love the drama
