A-Squared 4.0 Removal Review On Friday

Mark your calendars!!  This friday the 17′th I’ll be reviewing the malware removal abilities of A-Squared 4.0.  I’m personally excited to see how the new 4.0 performs becuase I currently use 3.5 on my bootable anti-malware disc (and i love it).

A-Squared 4.0 now feature anti-virus technologies from Ikarus (which I haven’t heard much about).

Please +1 this post if you like me :)

hi Matt … im kinda new and i saw all your videos in one day … it was very good and i like your way of testing the anti virus programs and i cant wait to see your new vids

see you soon my friend :)

So many of these programs are just junk. If you like the old version then I’ll have to download it and test it out. I run a Virtumonde removal site and have never used this bad boy before but will have to give it a go. What threats are you going to test this against? If you can I don’t suppose you can test it against a few popular threats out there like virtumonde, vundo, smitfraud and zlob. I see a lot of that out in the field.

@mohamad – thanks for watching! I know some of them are long.
@virtumonde removal man – I’m testing it against 1000+ threats…basically everything under the sun. Also, can you put my link on your site as well (since I just put 4 of yours here). :)

..again like ive suggested to Matt earlier… why not a quick scan with SAS/MBAM after testing of the actual AV program to see what its missing

    * That doesnt mean SAS and MBAM detect everything… they too miss a LOT of latest stuff in the wild :)

  • James

I want to see how the new antivirus (Ikarus) works. From my testing it has performed exceptionally well, beating every other AV

  • JasSolo

@James – True, but with lots of FP’s. Had it in my rig for about 15 min, and Ikarus already nailed several system files as malware, which it wasn’t. Not really ready for primetime, IMHO.

  • John Stein

A-Squared is the KING of False Positives!
The Ikarus AV detected eight (8) Excel files, which were clean: checked by Virus Total, no Macros included,
    as Viruses!

In terms of Resources, A-Squared is not that light…

The surf-protection part of IDS alerts for Hosts that are
not Malware-related according to WOT, Haute Secure etc.

  • malwarekilla

@Adel – since most of the anti-malware solutions I test don’t scan the registry I’m sure SAS and MBAM would find quite a bit.

@James – ….oh you’ll see it in action (against some new threats too)

@Jas and John – that’s truly a bummer. I use 3.5 almost everyday and haven’t been burned yet.

  • Jonas

I totaly agree with adel, memory scan with SAS and MBAM after scan with the antivirus. And see what they missed.

I hope you will try AVG again and Sophos =)
    But dont feel any pressure.

If A-Squared comes out good . Then its being set up to look good . Because I used A-Squared before when I had my first ever rougue antvirus I E Defender and it showed my computer was clean after a full scan. and had to use malwarebytes to find it.

I’ve used A-Squared for several years and have had excellent results with it. I am a subscriber so I got the new 4.0 as a free download. So far it seems to be doing a great job. I have been told I should only run one anti-virus program on the computer. Should I remove avast from my computer and just use the new a-squared? Thank you.

Matt.. i know here in these reviews you scan and clean the system… from anything that is visible or anything whose actions are visible…

You still might have something undetected.. that is not caught by the software and obviously there wouldnt be any attempt to clean that.

I know running SAS on every scan is extra work for you.. But at the end before you wrap up and rate the software.. it would be helpful..

For eg. 2 softwares you think that are 4/5 stars… now.. the SAS scan could help you say which one is probably the more efficient of the two.
an exmaple… Like KIS and Norton.. both get rated as probably 5/5 by you… but a SAS scan says there was more junk to clean up after the Norton cleanup than there was after KIS.. so you could probably pull down norton’s rating.. and it becomes 4.5/5… just a thought :)

  • malwarekilla

@Adel – You made a great point. From now on I will run a SAS scan at the end of each review.

Hello Matt, just like to say I’m really enjoying watching your vids, they make very addictive viewing. I’ve had a few people call me for help regarding bad malware infections on their systems and though I use alot of the freeware apps to help them out, your vids do help make choosing them a lot easier.

Look forward to the next one (Friday) and keep up the good work, your doing a great job!
