Malwarebytes Pro Removal and Detection Review

by malwarekilla on November 10, 2008

I reviewed Malwarebytes Pro last night.  You can watch it here:

youtube.com/mrizos

Malwarebytes removed a tremendous amout of malware without any fuss.  I personally use Malwarebytes everyday along side SuperAntiSpyware Pro (nothings getting through that power combo).  Here are some pros and cons of Malwarebytes Pro:

pros:

  • small download (only 2.2 MB!)
  • very fast install (under 30 seconds)
  • very fast update (under 10 seconds)
  • realtime scanner only uses 15 mb of RAM
  • Amazing detection via detection database and heuritics
  • “no fuss” malware removal
  • works alongside SuperAntiSpyware Pro

cons:

  • realtime protection only terminated a handful of rogues and zlob alerts.
  • only 2 update servers

FYI – I’m going to be testing Malwarebytes Pro Realtime protection in greater detail tonight.  Tonight’s test will involve NO scanning.  I will rely on Malwarebytes’ realtime scanner to terminate rogues, zlob alerts and vundu.

Here is the SAS log

so if you want real-time protection you can better buy Superantispyware.

Nice review!

BTW why don’t you do a protection review of SAS PRO too, you can get a free trial for it.

malwarekilla November 10, 2008 at 4:42 pm

@robin – Sadly it looks that way. SASPro seamed to terminate threats in RAM almost instantly.

@E. Darius – I did. Check out SuperAntiSpyware revisted on my youtube channel.

Thanks, I didn’t see it!

oftopic but look what i found on the lavasoft website:

On November 10, we will release our first beta for the new version of Ad-Aware, due to be launched in January.

You’ll see some exciting changes to the new engine, which has been totally rebuilt from the ground up, including heuristics scans and integrated Ad-Watch Live! real-time protection against known threats (over 2 million by the time we release) as well as many of those not yet in our signature database. No more loading Ad-Watch as a separate tool! And we don’t even dare to put a number yet on how much we’ve improved the load on resources…you wouldn’t believe us if we did! But be assured you’ll be seeing those numbers soon.

looks interesting, im gonna try^^

@Robin – Yo, thanks for that tip. I’m going to look for the beta now.

Zadex November 10, 2008 at 7:59 pm

I saw that MBAM asked for restart. Maybe is restart required to run MBAM realtime protection effecly?
We will see :)

lala November 10, 2008 at 9:39 pm

i think MBAM is better at detection but SAS is better at real time

malwarekilla November 11, 2008 at 4:30 am

@Zadex – the restart really didn’t matter..actually it made things worse. See my latest blog post.

@lala – So far it looks that way.

Nick Skrepetos (SUPERAntiSpyware.com) November 11, 2008 at 6:55 am

Hello – Nick Skrepetos here from SUPERAntiSpyware.com – I wanted to clarify our new version (4.22 upcoming) is more resistant to zlob (and other) termination and we have FAR more than 2 update servers. We don’t disclose the depth of the server array – just as our product is targeted by malware, so are our servers, but we have MANY more than two dedicated update servers and web servers.

I appreciate the support – please pass along any suggestions for improvement as we are making this product for you, our users!

Strange that you have to restart the computer, i dont have to.

The sas log link isn’t working here,

Whoops! That Page Isn’t Here

If you are looking for a specific post, please use the search bar at the top of the page.

SAS and MM are great antimalware products indeed, but I was wondering when can we see a Spybot Search & Destroy review. Ok, some will say that it sucks, based on what others may have said in any other suppose reviews. But, I am wondering if you would be willing to test Spybot?

I have been a user of Spybot S&D for a long time, and I must say, it has never failed me. I regularly perform scans with SAS and MM and they find nothing that Spybot S&D wouldn’t. That is, my system is totally clean.

It would be great to see a review for Spybot S&D. Thanks.

Best regards

I guess you’re not that interested… or are you busy that you haven’t seen my message? Well, I guess you have, otherwise my message wouldn’t have been allowed yet, as it was the first time I wrote here.

I do hope you accept the challenge!! ;)

Jonas November 14, 2008 at 4:22 pm

i agree with “m00nbl00d”. It would be fun too see how SS&D perform =)

malwarekilla November 14, 2008 at 5:17 pm

@MoonBlood and Jonas – Spybot Search and Destroy is indeed a great app and deserves a test (I have personally tested it about 2 weeks ago but never recorded the results).

I’ll perform another test and show you guys the results.
