I quickly downloaded my free BETA of Microsoft Security Essentials and put it right to the test. The install process was very simple and fast. As far as configuration…there was none. I chose all defaults. I let Microsoft Security Essentials update and off i went…
…to a list of 40 malicious URL’s including drive by downloads, rootkits, trojans, worms, viruses and more! Security Essentials blocked all 40 pieces of malware with complete ease!!! WOW!
I’ll be making my review of Security Essentials tonight and uploading it to my youtube channel right after.

symantec and mcafee are not goin to like this as well as avg, avast, i am very much afraid to ask this but is it better than sas real time protection or malware bytes?
What? A Microsoft security product that’s reliable? Get outta’ here.
Anywho, I’ll be looking forward to your review. Sounds like it’s good.
Wow! Looking forward to the video review. This appears to be a nice freebie from what I can tell testing it the last few days.
@ryan
Malwarebytes and SAS never had very good realtime. It is there removal that rocks. This security program is undoubtedly very promising. It has an almost unbeatably detection, and it is low on resources. I think MS is on to something. I can’t believe that it is only a beta!
Installation on my end was a breeze. The program is also EXTREMELY easy to use. I like it when you right click on the icon by the clock. The only option is ‘open’.
well this is not a present
i downloaded ms-se and i am running kaspresky antivirus 2009
@mat it blocked 40 urls is there any thing that can get past morro lol?
No way.
A Microsoft security product that is actually good?
Isnt WSE based on Onecare? How can you be so impressed with WSE when you think Onecare is so bad?
PCmag was not that impressed with it.

@Rolf – no, they actually bought someone else’s AV package and re-branded it plus added on some Cloud functionality.

Yeah, that’s not surprising since it could severely hurt their advertisers (Symantec, Trend, McAfee)….of course they’re not impressed.
I expect all the major AV vendors will have “cloud” service soon.
I can’t help but think the AV with the best database will continue to dominate. The more users the more complete the “cloud” info will be.
@Rolf
PCmag did not say they were not impressed, a “Journalist”, who already has a bias against Microsoft, was not impressed. Not too surprising…
