Video Product reviews for Anti-Malware Applications.  Anti-Malware is generic for anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-trojan, anti-rootkit and anti-adware.

The following products were reviewed on a highly infected PC. The goal of each product review is to see how well or not well each anti-virus / anti-malware product detects, removes and prevents malware.

This page is currently being  updated  for 2009 and all reviews will resemble the Microsoft OneCare review block.

Microsoft OneCare Review

	Don't waste your money or time on OneCare. Most free antivirus applications perform much better than OneCare's AV engine. I'm giving OneCare just because OneCare comes bundled with a lot of extra tools that average PC users will find useful.

	Kaspersky Antivirus is one of the best signature based antivirus applications you can buy.  With hourly updates, a massive database, awesome heuritics, and great removal abilities KAV makes a great choice for anyone looking for solid antivirus protection.

Nod32 v3.0 Antivirus Review

	easy to install, massive detection database, great heuristics (threatsense), easy malware removal, safemode scanner, doesn't slow your system down much

	anti-adware module is pretty weak, safemode scanner prone to crashes

	Nod32 is a really solid antivirus, but needs some serious improvements in the anti-spyware and anti-adware modules (which is crucial these days)  The upcoming Nod32 4.0 makes some major improvements on the anti-adware modules, however at the time of this writting is still in beta.

Avast AntiVirus 4.8 Review

	easy to install, updates quickly and automatically,  malware removal is decent, works in safemode, boot-time scanner, FREE!
	n
	no heuristics, requires registration code, if all shields are turned on memory usage is somewhat high, relies on signatures only, AntiAdware detection and removal is weak
	n

	Avast AntiVirus is a free AntiVirus that is somewhat dated.  Back when signature based AV was enough to fight malware Avast was one of my favorite applications, however currently it's not one that I would personally recommend.  Once (or if) the Avast team adds heuritics to file detection I'd be willing to take another look at it's AntiMalware abilities.
